Company Location: Los Angeles, CA - VIRTUAL internship
(Internship will be conducted virtually - online and over the phone. No preference is given to local applicants.)
We prefer six-month internships. While we will consider shorter internships for the right candidates, preference will be given to candidates who are available for the full six months.
We are looking for an energetic, creative, proactive, and detail-oriented person to join us for our internship program. We are a team of creatives that work directly with the founder of the company: a bestselling author, speaker, and news commentator with an inspiring, positive message about triumphing over challenges.
This is an unpaid internship, but one that can transfer for credit, given your school's approval and the specific way your school's internship program works. Upon successful completion of your internship, we are happy to provide letters of reference and recommendation, and/or complete any paperwork that your professors or school require.
You must have a personal computer. Commitment of 4-5 days per week is required. Strong computer skills are necessary. We would like someone to start as soon as possible. You may do this work from the comfort of your home or any other quiet location that is conducive to work.
Description
The internship is for a bestselling author, speaker, and media commentator who already does a great deal of national media, and is well-positioned to launch forward into mainstream media in a substantially larger way. Because of the ground work that has already been taken in securing major media appearances, it is likely that our intern will be able to land large media outlets, and be able to not only use those wins on their resume moving forward, but also be able to build and maintain relationships with producers at major media outlets.
The public relations internship is a highly collaborative partnership, and you will work directly with the company's founder. It is our goal to give our intern a hands-on, real-world immersion into the world of marketing and public relations, rather than just a hypothetical understanding, an outsider's view, or a classroom-only approach. Our intern will dive directly into the day-to-day responsibilities that someone at a typical PR office would have.
Responsibilities
Creating Opportunities for Media Appearances:
• Monitor news events, viral phenomena, and what's trending online, on social media, in print, and on TV to find opportunities for appearances, placement, contribution, and/or collaboration.
• Devise ways to position what we do with what you've found is trending or happening in the news.
• Create a pitch for a segment that ties what we do to what's trending.
• Find appropriate media outlets to send those pitches. (This will include studying programs like Good Morning America, Today, The View, Fox & Friends, etc. to learn their specific requirements for segments.)
• Personalize the pitch to each specific media outlet that you have selected.
• Call and/or email the correct producer for each of the media outlets you have selected to pitch the segment. (This will include researching who are the producers at all relevant shows, which producer covers which type of segment, and what the contact information is for those producers.)
• Follow up with those producers as needed until a booking is made or they pass on that particular pitch. Continue building a relationship with those producers, so the next time a similar story comes along, we are top-of-mind.
Creating Opportunities for Celebrity Endorsements & Tie-Ins:
• Monitor news events, viral phenomena, and what's trending online, on social media, in print, and on TV to find opportunities for our founder to help various celebrities with the issues they're facing, or to collaborate with the celebrities on causes that are of mutual interest.
• Devise ways to position what we do with what you've found is happening with the celebrity or celebrities.
• Create a plan for outreach to the celebrity and/or their publicist, agent, manager, etc. and building a relationship with those people.
• Once you've created relationships with the celebrity and/or their representatives, personalize a pitch to each one.
• Follow up with the celebrity and/or their representatives as needed until a collaboration is made, an endorsement is made, or they pass on that particular opportunity. Continue building a relationship with the celebrity and/or their representatives, so the next time a similar event, issue, or opportunity comes along, we are top-of-mind.
Additional Marketing and Public Relations Responsibilities:
• Developing, writing and distributing approved press releases.
• Writing the copy for pitches, releases, marketing collateral, social media campaigns, and other materials which represent our brand.
• Building and maintaining relationships with both local and national media.
• Assist with electronic and social media marketing efforts.
• Assist with email marketing efforts.
• Brainstorm on new avenues to gain media attention, devise a plan to do so, and spearhead the execution of those plans.
Requirements
• The right candidate will be a smart, fearless, and reliable self-starter who is willing and able to forge relationships with media decision makers, celebrities, and their representation.
• Must be unstoppable in the face of hearing ''NO.''
• Part time. Must be available at least 3 hours per day.
Skills
Required - Impeccable American English grammar, strong writing skills, online social networking, public relations skills, email campaigning, cold-calling, relationship building, writing press releases
