The Futuro Media Group Development Intern (Volunteer Position)
The Futuro Media Group seeks a highly organized and self-motivated student or young professional to join their dynamic team as a development intern. We are looking for somebody with excellent communication and organizational skills to assist the development department within Futuro Media Group. As we are a small shop, we are looking for somebody capable of strategic thinking, asking questions and taking initiative, as well as someone who can roll up their sleeves and do tasks with a smile on their face.
The start date for the volunteer position is flexible. Interested candidates should send a resume and cover letter. Only the most qualified candidates will be contacted. No phone calls, please.
Location New York, New York (Harlem)
Hours Flexible, Part-time, Volunteer.
Compensation This is an unpaid, volunteer position. If applicable, academic credit can be provided.

The Futuro Media Group is an independent nonprofit organization producing multimedia journalism that explores and gives a critical voice to the diversity of the American experience. Based in Harlem and founded in 2010 by award-winning journalist Maria Hinojosa, Futuro Media is committed to telling stories often overlooked by mainstream media. Futuro Media produces Latino USA, NPR's only national Latino news and culture weekly radio program. Futuro Media also produces America By The Numbers with Maria Hinojosa, a television series for PBS that examines how America's growing multicultural population is influencing every aspect of contemporary life, as well as the political talk podcast In The Thick and a short-form video series called Humanizing America.
Reports to Anna Proffitt, Director of Institutional Giving
Overall Function The Development Intern will provide data and administrative support to the Fundraising Team. Please note that this is not a journalism internship.
Main internship tasks and opportunities:
Contribute to the shaping of donor cultivation strategy in development meetings for institutional, individual, and major donors.
Help maintain development database, development files and mailchimp.
Assist with gift processing and acknowledgment
Conduct prospect research and recommend donors for portfolio
Write, edit and format grant proposals, reports and other copy for donor communications, as assigned
Stay on top of philanthropic news and developments
Assist in the production of events, if applicable
Help organize and clean office on a daily basis
Larger projects can be assigned based on the experience, availability, and interest of the applicant
The ideal candidate will have:
Experience working with business development databases and prospect research is a plus
Eagerness to learn
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality about sensitive information
Well-organized; pays attention to detail
Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment to identify and solve problems
Interest in business development, nonprofit management and independent journalism is a plus
Proofreading skills and enthusiasm for the craft of fundraising
Have a knack for developing relationships with internal and external colleagues
Strong time management skills
Ability to work independently while also fitting into a small, focused team
Be curious with a desire to keep learning
Accept productive criticism and feedback intended to help you grow
Love of journalism and podcasts is a plus

Salary: $12.50 /day
