Job Description for Director, Business & Legal Affairs
Tennis Channel is the only 24-hour, television-based multimedia destination dedicated to both the professional sport and tennis lifestyle. A hybrid of comprehensive sports, health, fitness, pop culture, entertainment, lifestyle and travel programming, the network is home to every aspect of the wide-ranging, worldwide tennis community. It also has the most concentrated single-sport coverage in television, with telecast rights to the US Open, Wimbledon, Roland Garros (French Open), Australian Open, Emirates Airline US Open Series, ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events, top-tier WTA competitions, Davis Cup, Fed Cup by BNP Paribas, and Hyundai Hopman Cup. Tennis Channel is carried by nine of the top 10 video providers.
Position: Director, Business and Legal Affairs
Requirements:
• Responsible for drafting acquisition, development and production agreements, which include agreements for sports media rights, talent, technical services and various other agreements
• Responsible for all legal matters during the course of production including location agreements, permissions, releases, and various other agreements
• Responsible for marketing matters, evaluating rights/chain of title issues, clearance matters, advertising, promotion, publicity, internet issues, drafting/review of sweepstakes or promotions and general corporate issues including oversight of general legal and business practices and standards and coordination with senior management of certain litigation impacting the business and operations of the network
• Advise and coordinate with sales executives, marketing and administrative personnel to identify and resolve business and legal issues, and contract interpretation, and provide ongoing counsel, advice, and support.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 5+ years' experience, preferably with a large entertainment company, sports media organization, law firm or cable network
• Ability to work both independently, and as part of a team to problem solve
• Outstanding negotiation and drafting skills
• Solid understanding of the television media landscape including media platforms such as television and digital
• Sports media background
• Strong interpersonal skills necessary to interact with a range of personalities and establish effective relationships at all levels of the organization
• Excellent communication skills and computer literacy
• Exceptional drafting and analytical skills
• Capacity to handle a heavy work load, while maintaining a strong work-ethic and high level of self-motivation
