REPORTS TO: Sr. Director of Marketing and Communication
GOAL
The Marketing Manager for Concerts and Special Events is responsible for managing the media and advertising needs for interested clients who come in through Programming, Event Sales and Services, TPAC Presents Series and War Memorial Auditorium Presents series.
This is a very important role because it's an increasingly more vital bridge between Programming, Event Sales and Services and Marketing. The position also oversees the
development, recruitment and management of other ancillary audience-development
strategies.
OBJECTIVES
1. Helps manage department budgets for areas of oversight, meeting or exceeding budgeted goals. Manages WMA Institutional Budget and collaborates with Broadway Marketing Manager on TPAC Presents Shows.
2. Creates a marketing and promotions strategy for rental clients and TPAC/WMA Presented shows, maintaining an open, successful working relationship with rental clients/promoters/press agents
3. Develops WMA and TPAC Presents social networking presence in coordination with the Online Engagement Manager, and sometimes external clients through a business development plan to support audience development and create brand awareness, including overseeing the development of fresh, exciting social media/web content
4. Develops ancillary events which foster new relationships for sponsors, music industry executives, and audience members
5. Commits to excellence when positioning the TPAC and War Memorial Auditorium brands
6. Reviews strategies to overcome inevitable obstacles
7. Assists in the creation and fulfillment of sponsorship proposals, cultivating and nurturing strong relationships with sponsors
8. Integrates marketing initiatives and programs with other key departments such as communications, box office, education, event services, concessions, etc.
9. Directs the Attic Sessions Video Series with Digital Content Manager, researching and securing artists, conducting interviews, and overseeing release and distribution
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Oversees the development of marketing strategies, promotional plans and budgets for each WMA and assigned TPAC Presents and/or co-presented programs.
2. Serves as primary marketing liaison with Rental Clients, Promoters, and Agents. Assists with the design and production of various marketing pieces to support sales and promotional activities. Provides necessary information to the TPAC Box Office and other key staff
3. Prepares marketing settlements for assigned concerts and events. Create and send marketing settlement based on approved ad plan.
4. Coordinates marketing activities related to sponsorship fulfillment for TPAC, including regulation of all marketing materials for correct logos, etc. as agreed upon in sponsorship contracts
5. Contact for all War Memorial Auditorium Public Relations for programming; prepares and distributes press releases for upcoming events and shows. Coordinate with Director of PR for WMA Institutional Public Relations.
6. Works with Promoters , Artist Management, TPAC staff, and technical partners to secure authorization and creation of exclusive performance content for TPAC promotional use
7. Compiles research regarding potential artists to aid TPAC Presents and WMA Presents programming team to make informed decisions about artist offers.
8. Works closely with the Public Relations Manager for synergy and excellence in branding especially for TPAC Presents programming.
9. Works closely with the Director of Communications and Community Relations, providing input on publications needed for TPAC (On Stage Publication, newsletters, press releases etc.)
10. Conducts periodic market and show research
11. Oversees TPAC Ad Agency functionality for external clients
12. In conjunction with Broadway Marketing Manager, supervises the Marketing and Communication Assistant position.
- Conducts weekly meetings to validate work and determine status.
13. Has a thorough and complete understanding of each budget of oversight; how it works, how any revenue streams are comprised and how they are tied to connected expenses, and the impact they all have on the company budget
14. Maintains/Oversees budget in a fiscally responsible manner
- Daily monitoring of any revenue pieces through appropriate reports
- Daily monitoring of expenses through POs & payroll approvals and monthly monitoring through thorough review of financials received from the Business Office.
15. Has an awareness of the status of the departmental budgets at all times, allowing timely recognition and reporting of variances (past or present) to the Business Office for proper handling in the re-forecast process
16. Notifies supervisor immediately of any impending non-trivial variances (revenues or expenses) as soon as they become apparent
17. Assists in the handling of customer inquiries and complaints. Monitors social media presence for WMA.
18. Interviews; hires and supervises capable interns
19. Reviews weekly sales and makes judgment-based decisions to invoke dynamic pricing where applicable
20. Curates content for War Memorial Auditorium social media platforms. Posts content, as needed, and responds accordingly to comments. Coordinates social strategy and implementation with Online Engagement Manager.
The above listed duties are not all inclusive. This position is is expected to perform other work related duties as assigned even though they may not be considered primary duties.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Experience Required
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four year college or university, preferably with a concentration in advertising, marketing, or communication. Preferred one to two years in a professional environment.
Skills and Knowledge Required
1. Excellent leadership skills and ability to work in a team setting.
2. Organizational, supervisory, and human relations skills
3. Strong written and verbal communication skills
4. Strong fiscal management skills
5. Computer operations and knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word
6. Strong understanding of advertising, design lay-out and printing processes
7. Strong customer services skills
