The senior system engineer has an in-depth knowledge regarding platform technology including but not limited to the operating system, information systems, and software architecture that development teams use.

Responsibilities
• Work with internal or vendor to bring up hardware (physical and virtual)
• Work with internal or vendor to configure application stack (physical and virtual)
• Experience setting up, configuring, and troubleshooting caching tools (Memcached, Varnish, APC)
• Work with in-house development teams as necessary to test and deploy new projects to hardware
• Hands on experience with hosting web applications served from a cloud environment (Amazon AWS, Rackspace Cloud, etc)
• DNS management
• Hands-on experience with deployment scripting and tools (Jenkins/Hudson, CruiseControl, etc.)
• Work with in-house development, and DBA's to determine data distribution
• Database replication (master-master, master-slave), backup, and versioning
• Work with internal or vendor s to configure load balancers
• Work with the developers to troubleshoot issues and bring them to resolution.
• Site Monitoring, processes, handling alerts, escalations
• Troubleshooting application code and performance of code (PHP, Python, Java, Ruby, Drupal)
• Manage CDN resources
• Manage GIT repositories
• Traditional build and release duties
• Day to day system administration, tuning, scaling operations
• Improve operations processes
• Incident management- the system engineer will be responsible for owning outages from reporting to resolution, ensuring that customers are kept informed of the progress.
Qualifications
• Strong experience running and administering UNIX or Linux systems, preferably Centos/Redhat or Ubuntu.
• Experience with open source applications & cms (drupal, joomla, word press)
• Comfortable at the command line, writing and editing shell (bash, perl, awk) scripts.
• Ability to manage, troubleshoot issues & configurations of Linux based servers - database tier, web tier, application tier to caching tier.
• Monitor the systems performance, alerts, produce standard operating procedures for alerts, follow escalation processes.
• Hands-on experience running and maintaining web server technologies: nginx, light-httpd, Apache and Tomcat.
• Hands-on experience creating web-tools and scripts for various aspects of system monitoring, maintenance, reporting, etc .
• Experience with VMware, provisioning hardware, configurations.
• Minimum 5 year of experience with Mysql, SQL Server, PostGres
• Hands-on experience with scripting languages such as Perl, Shell, Python, PHP etc.
• Strong communication skills
• Strong troubleshooting abilities
