The Field Producer / Editor will be responsible for producing and editing digital video content for political and social news content captured on location in collaboration with a Field Reporter. This position will be accountable for supporting the production needs of field reporting, including research, planning, camera operations, audio setup / capture, video editing, archival storage and publishing as needed.
Key responsibilities and duties include:
• Plan and execute the capture of video footage to convey the political and social news stories / events covered by the Field Reporter
• Shoot and edit high-quality digital video and audio FAST. Breaking news - think hours, not days.
• Manage and effectively use field production equipment and tools, including camera gear, microphones, video capture, storage, livestreaming and transfer, editing software
• Shoot livestreamed footage to the TYT Politics channel using multiple livestream platforms.
• Research stories and events as needed to support and prepare for shoots, with guidance from the Field Reporter
• Recommend perspective on storylines, but work in collaboration with, and in support of the Field Reporter
• Travel on-site to events and locations where breaking news is taking place to capture and publish video
• Call and arrange interviews, meetings, credentialing, access and travel logistics as needed to support field reporting requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
• Ability to travel at least 50% of the time and on short notice
• Good understanding of political issues, current events and social news topics
• Demonstrated ability to produce, capture and edit high-quality digital video that tells compelling stories
• Hands on experience with professional camera, lighting and audio equipment, plus ability to troubleshoot in the field and fix technical issues should they arise.
• A basic knowledge of using natural light to create nice looking images.
• Good understanding of digital platforms (e.g., YouTube, Facebook, Twitter) and experience publishing written and video content
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Sound judgement to prioritize between breaking news and longer form content.
• Experience with social media
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work directly with external parties and in collaboration across internal teams
• 4-year college degree or equivalent experience required
The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work hard and persistently, and to be comfortable with producing, editing, and shooting footage often under stressful conditions. The Field Producer / Editor is expected to work closely with the Field Reporter to build and grow an online audience and constantly analyze and find ways to improve. This position will require flexibility traveling and at times working off-hours in order to be present where news stories require their presence.
This position will likely start as a 30-day contract with a high potential for full time position. Day gigs may also arise, but please specify your availability.
