TMZ is looking for a Managing Editor to develop and oversee a dedicated Sports site within our fast-paced, news production environment. This sports enthusiast has a reporting/producing background and will manage all editorial content, art, multi-media, production processes and workflow for TMZ Sports. This role will focus on the reporting, strategy and creation of new digital, sports-focused content that will appeal to our diverse audience. The ideal candidate is a leader with fresh ideas and ability to find sports stories that will generate web traffic. Requirements include a solid blend of writing, copyediting, and ability to work under short deadlines. Must be a driven and flexible leader who can display creativity both independently and under the direction of others, can multi-task under pressure, and can effectively manage and build a team, while clearly outlining strategies and plans for site development, implementation, and expansion. This role is based in Los Angeles, CA.
Responsibilities:
• Strategize and conceive new content, and organize and oversee the digital editorial workflow, quality control, and distribution processes for the TMZ Sports website
• Direct the creation, production, copyediting and distribution of compelling content for the web, mobile, tablet, and other devices
• Partner with and communicate technical and business requirements with developers, graphic designers, and creative teams
• Build features that capture traffic from TMZ and craft other audience development opportunities
• Manage the Ad supported product, including the development of sponsorship features for brand advertisers
• Spearhead special content areas of the website to enhance user experience
• Performs additional duties as assigned
Requirements:
• Four-year degree in Journalism, English, Communications or other relevant field or commensurate experience
• 5+ years experience of relevant sports journalism/writing experience
• 5+ years experience producing web content online is required
• Experience managing multiple content professionals in a deadline-driven, digital environment
• Must be an avid sports fan and highly knowledgeable about sports statistics, players, teams, coaches, etc., across sports genres
• Must be comfortable in a fast-paced news environment
• Expertise in web content management systems, familiarity with tagging and metadata, classification, workflow, CSS, HTML, page promotion, templates and page components
• Excellent proofreading, written and oral communications skills
• Self-motivated and able to work independently and with minimal direction
• Ability to make decisions quickly and adapt to multiple demands and shifting priorities
