This is a seasonal position to help manage the press office and team leading up to and during the Sundance Film Festival based in our Park City, UT office.
Position Reports to: Manager, Media Relations
Number of Direct Reports: 4
Dates of Employment: 10/11/2017-2/16/2018
Wage: $15.50/hour
Considerations: Position is typically lodged in Park City, UT during the January Film Festival (lodging requirement determined annually). In addition, this role is required to work extended hours (evenings, weekends, some holidays) during key points and must be willing and available to respond to on-call needs as assigned.
Position Summary: Manages the Sundance Film Festival Press Office and seasonal press team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manages department calendars (e.g. volunteer, press line, events, etc.) to ensure departmental deadlines are met.
• With Manager, creates training manuals and documents, schedules, and conducts department trainings and meetings as requested.
• Creates operational plan and manages the setup and breakdown of the Festival Press Office located at Headquarters (signage, furniture, equipment, establishing timelines with other departments, etc.).
• Manages staff, includes selecting and training highly effective staff, providing direction, feedback, and support to ensure employees understand responsibilities and are effective in their roles, and delegates appropriate and meaningful work.
• Generates media coverage reports regarding announcements, initiatives and internal requests as needed.
• Assists Manager Media Relations with various projects, such as implementing day to day media requests (fact checks, photo and video requests, etc.), creating targeted media lists, etc.
• Interviews, hires and manages a team of Festival volunteers.
• Provides timely communication regarding Festival specific information to attending press and publicists.
• Assists the Sundance Industry Office in obtaining and distributing attendance reports.
• Oversees the departmental designated media space, implements and enforces its policies and procedures.
• Schedules wrap meetings with key departments.
• Completes a comprehensive written wrap report as directed.
• Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
• Employee has legal authorization to work in the United States.
• 3 years experience in Public Relations, Media Relations, or Special Event Publicity.
• 3 years operational planning and box office management experience or related.
• Strong leadership skills with a background that includes demonstrated excellence in managing employees.
• Working knowledge of databases along with proficiency in Microsoft and Google Products.
• Outstanding communication skills, telephone, written and interpersonal skills required to work effectively with a wide variety of people.
• Excellent organizational skills including self management of work schedule ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong conflict management skills.
• Must be able to maintain confidential information.
• Ability to work nights and weekends around events and key deadlines and events.
Preferred Education
, Experience and Skills:
• Experience facilitating trainings for large groups preferred.
• Bachelor's Degree in communications or related field preferred.
