Ideal Candidate:
1) The job itself is creative. Writing is a huge part of this - figuring out how to make concepts sound fun, fresh and innovative while also keeping them structured and formatted is of major importance. However, you also need to be able to convert that writing into a visual deck for pitching purposes. Knowing how to make something pop off the page is of major value. Knowledge of Powerpoint and Photoshop is a must.
2) A major part of the job is organizational and research-based. It's a fast-paced, high-volume work environment. Being ahead of the curve in terms of knowing what's trending and sending out a weekly newsletter to help the dept. gauge this. You also need to be highly organized. Keeping submission logs updated on a daily basis, knowing when and how to follow-up, being able to say yes or no in the most diplomatic manner, while also being able to manage your time inside and outside of the office. Note: you won't be answering phones or getting anyone coffee, unless it's requested from a visiting guest (Everyone pitches in to help out).
3) A third part of the job is production. Once a show is greenlit, this person will have eyes on it throughout the process, often visiting set to make sure things are running smoothly. The ideal candidate has an understanding of all aspects of production, from prep to post, and would be able to keep tabs on the entire process as a mediator between networks and internal staff. Troubleshooting and communication is key. Major points if the candidates knows their way around an edit bay, ie Avid/Premiere.
This is a great position for anyone eager to learn the ropes in regards to all aspects of TV development, pitching, buying and production.
