Studio 8 is looking for an experienced executive to join its Business Affairs/Legal team and to help build, from the ground-up, Studio 8's television division. The ideal candidate will be energetic, self-motivated, and knowledgeable about the current state of the television industry, and able to excel at all of the following:
• Help create and set company policies, deal structures and precedents.
• Negotiate deals and draft agreements relating to all facets of development and production of television programming.
• Act as a liaison between the company's creative executives and the creative community (i.e., talent agencies, talent managers, entertainment law firms, studios and production companies).
• Advise executives on business strategy, risk matters, labor/guild issues and the use of the intellectual property.
• Review budgets, production materials and other information relating to the development, licensing and production of television programs.
• Performing other day-to-day business affairs-related and legal tasks (including in connection with Studio 8's motion picture projects) as needed and assigned.
The qualified individual should demonstrate:
• Extensive knowledge of entertainment transactions (in television in particular) and strong relationships within the industry.
• An ability to defend, articulate and structure industry-specific contracts, e.g., MAGR definitions
• The ability to reason, apply logic, make autonomous, common sense decisions and work with tight and competing deadlines.
• In-depth knowledge concerning union and non-union labor and employment law and intellectual property law issues
• Impeccable drafting skills (law firm training preferred).
• A cooperative, team-oriented approach with an easygoing personality and sense of humor.
Required Experience:
6+ years' experience in a similar role at a studio or network. A combination of law firm and in-house experience is ideal. Qualified candidates must be members of the California bar, should possess excellent drafting and organizational skills and be polished and poised in communicating and presenting with and to executives, internal clients and the outside entertainment community.
