NOTE: The hours for this position are 4:30 p.m. - 12:30 a.m. Additional weekend hours may be made available/required.
Primary Responsibility: Edit various long and short-form programs as interstitial segments for On-Air Network Services and programming associated with marketing campaigns, while teaming with Starz Producers. Night hours will be required and additional weekend hours may be made available during the term.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Work for long periods without direct supervision.
•Enable file-based workflows and deliverables to Client Approval Services and Systems in the Broadcast and On-Demand Delivery chain maintaining engagement to support current quarterly deliverable schedules for original programming and series promotions.
•Operate Protools (v8.x and higher) to edit and mix audio sources synchronized to picture.
•Use approved library music and sound effects within projects.
•Dolby encode/decode hardware and software onto mastering media.
•Properly apply equalization, compression and effects (Protools Plugins) according to Starz specifications, in accordance with industry standard and best practice.
•Operate NetMix sound effects/music database system to audition and retrieve audio for lock to picture purposes.
•Synchronize 5.1/2.0/1.0 audio to picture, to include effects, dialog, voiceover and music.
•Obtain proper balance of all elements within a mix during re-recording process.
•Interact with multiple file storage devices and comply with department archiving practices.
•Collaborate with producers/project managers to generate high quality programming and advertising material, while offering suggestions and utilizing creative tool set to audition picture and sound revisions to the creative team.
•Generate OMF, AAF, EDL files to transfer projects to other editing systems; and ingest from these files when required.
•Responsible for professional application of Dolby LM-100 or other audio signal monitoring and processing to maintain pre-mix dialogue loudness to the prevailing specification and recommended practice.
•Utilize Final Cut Server to manage projects and browse available media.
•Compressor and watch folder systems to upload completed projects and transcode media prior to ingest or to distribution and approval systems.
•Utilize broadcast signal equipment to measure & evaluate video, audio, and metadata content.
•Operate patch bay and router equipment to control signal input/output within the editing environment.
•Operate HD and SD VTR's for ingest and for output mastering to tape including, menu controls to support multi-channel audio, timecode, and system or frame reference rates; VTR's include Sony HDCAM, HDCAM SR and Panasonic D5 models.
•Report daily project completion and availability for further assignment to Post Production Coordinator including, reporting on equipment malfunctions for on-the-job resolution to Post Production Coordinator.
Education, Knowledge, and Experience:
•Bachelor's Degree in Film, Television or similar discipline preferred; Minimum three or more years' direct experience creating multi-track audio compositions for television with ProTools digital audio workstation and working with asset management applications for organizing clips, deliverables, and contextual metadata; Minimum three years' experience working in a post-production facility creating output for national advertising clients and/or a national programming service or network(s); and/or training; And/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Eight or more years in broadcast post production with at least five continuous years of direct audio editing\mixing experience of content placed nationally for advertising agency clients; and/or nationally distributed broadcast or cable network service, three of these years must be associated with the promotion of serialized scripted dramatic programming and/or a major motion picture studio's trailers.
•Proven national level advertising and programming editorial experience using timeline based DAW's such as Pro tools and equivalent workstations.
•Experience with multi-track distribution and conforming within DAW.
