Legal Analyst
The Intellectual Property team is hiring a Legal Analyst who will be responsible for rights analysis of acquisition and distribution agreements, co-financing and co-production agreements, and multi-picture agreements, among others. In addition, the Analyst will be responsible for entering, updating and managing data in various systems used by the department.
Responsibilities
Review, analyze, and prepare summaries of co-production, co-finance, network license and digital rights agreements. Determine the relevant distribution rights and restrictions (media, term, territory, appropriate events triggers, holdbacks and windows) for assigned projects. Clarify rights with attorneys. Answer queries from sales groups about distribution rights and restrictions and/or route such queries to the appropriate person. Enter and/or update distribution and talent information in sales database (GPMS) in a timely manner.
Review talent and underlying property agreements for restrictions on distribution rights primarily in connection with dubbing and cut and edit rights and prepare summaries documenting analysis and conclusions.
Input, update and maintain data in various databases utilized by department.
Requirements
• BA/BS or equivalent experience required
• Paralegal certificate preferred
• At least 2 years of experience with entertainment industry contracts.
• Knowledge of:
• This position requires knowledge of entertainment industry contracts related to distribution rights and media grants and an understanding of different types of digital media rights.
• Experience in evaluating chain of title or working with title registration process a plus.
• Skill In:
• Strong organizational skills, ability to manage project flow and work processes, and attendant follow-up and follow through.
• Candidate must possess strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work cohesively in a collaborative environment, and to work independently on assigned projects.
• Candidate must be flexible and possess the ability to work well in an environment where priorities are subject to revision based on business needs.
• Candidate must demonstrate attention to detail, discretion, common sense, and excellent judgment.
• Skill in the use of various databases for research, data entry and data management.
Ability To:
• Must be able to able to analyze, interpret and summarize multifaceted contract language included in distribution, network license and pre-sale agreements.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Must be able to communicate complex issues to business, legal, and creative executives.
• Must be able to work independently, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
