Solomon Group is searching for a collaboratively-minded Fabrication Technical Director to add to our expanding Fabrication Department. This is a full-time position based in New Orleans, LA.
The ideal candidate has an impressive background in theater and/or event production along with the skills and experience to round out our successful team of draftsmen, engineers and project managers. You will oversee numerous projects, working closely with all members of the fabrication team to develop engineering solutions and plans for fabrication.
New Orleans is one of the fastest-growing cities and employment markets in the country. The city regularly hosts the largest and most popular sporting, music and corporate events in America. Solomon Group's office headquarters is located at the intersection of the city's Sports/Entertainment District, Downtown Theater District, Central Business District and Warehouse/Arts District.
Responsibilities for this position include:
Creating technical drawings for use by carpenters, welders and other craftsmen;
Working with team members to develop engineering solutions;
Helping plan and implement a fabrication plan for various projects, simultaneously;
Working closely with the CNC department;
Conducting/attending site visits and on-site work as necessary;
Traveling as needed to plan and execute Solomon Group's fabrication projects;
Helping to create and communicate clear, accurate information to the craftsmen on the floor.
The ideal candidate must have:
Proficiency with both 3D and 2D drafting programs of various types (including SketchUp, AutoCAD, VectorWorks and Illustrator);
Experience with exhibit, live performance and/or broadcast scenic environment design and fabrication techniques;
Experience working with a wide range of materials including wood, acrylic, aluminum, steel, composites and laminates;
Proficiency with Mac computers and operating systems;
Strong communications skills;
A valid driver's license;
The ability to maintain an even temper under tight turnaround times and stressful conditions.
