HOW WE WORK
Our Accounting function partners with Legal & Business Affairs on invoicing on contracts on behalf of our clients. We then keep track of the resulting payment streams and write our own invoices for our fees, commissions and expenses.
We are part of a publicly traded, multi-national company and must observe many complicating details in our accounting (proper accruals, the timing of revenue recognition, etc.). We also operate in a fascinating international marketplace, with many currencies, time zones, and contractual idiosyncrasies unique to our industry.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
You will be integral to many of the internal finance & accounting processes we run, like budgeting & cash flow forecasting, variance analysis, month and year end process, and even help author the notes for our financials.
To do that, you will team up with Legal & Business Affairs and follow what invoices they write and what adjustments they require to existing ones. You must be able to analyze large data downloads from the contract management system and its integrated A/R ledger, and prepare them for upload into our accounting system. Advanced MS Excel skills in a PC environment are a must.
You will then help keep track of the related cashflows, and what amounts we become entitled to in terms of fees, commissions and reimbursable expenses.
It will be your responsibility to know what we can invoice for on our own account, and who you will write the invoice to. It will also require you to have the drive to follow up on invoices you wrote. You should have the requisite assertive personality to help manage an A/R aging.
With all the data you will handle, you will be our point person to help with posting our monthly accruals and with keeping our G/L neat and clean. We operate several subsidiary entities, so the concept of intercompany entries and eliminations and double-entry bookkeeping in general must be very familiar to you.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE
- Either a trained accountant, or a financial analyst with extensive previous experience in ledger and accrual accounting, double-entry bookkeeping (T-accounts!), and the basic tenets of GAAP
- A quick, independent learner
- Adaptable to a fast-paced environment and resilient to - and still accurate under - pressure
- An expert in MS Excel on PC, its Analysis ToolPak and maybe even VBA (Macros)
- Extremely diligent, and have high standards for your work
