POSITION PURPOSE:
The National Director, New Media administers and enforces all New Media (including Interactive) contracts and either negotiates or supports the negotiation of those contracts. He or she represents SAG-AFTRA within the new media production community and the New Media department internally within the union. The National Director helps sets the strategic direction for the New Media department in consultation with the Executive Director and other senior staff. The National Director develops department staff and innovates new ways to deliver services effectively with fewer resources. This position is responsible for keeping a finger on the pulse of the future and providing to staff and members essential research, analysis, forecasting, strategy, and relationships within the business and technology communities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administer and enforce New Media (including Interactive) contracts, including the processes for adhering new signatories, responding to questions from members, producers, agents, etc. monitoring contract compliance and appropriately resolving claims.
Support the negotiation of the Codified Basic Agreement (including related contracts) and the Interactive Media Agreement by taking a leadership role in the wages and working conditions process and at major negotiations. Negotiates independent New Media agreements and waivers directly with producers and their representatives. Also provides support for other collective bargaining agreements where changes in technology and the new media business affect our members.
Coordinate with other departments and offices to ensure consistent interpretation of New Media terms across contracts nationally.
In coordination with the Executive Director and other senior staff, develop and achieve a strategic vision for the New Media department, set goals and milestones and regularly measure and report such progress. Innovate new methods of delivering services to maximize constituent satisfaction with fewer resources.
Supervise, manage and participate in assessment of work performance of all departmental staff. Responsible for overall activities, tasks and related responsibilities of the department.
Provide expertise to help guide the Union to proactively protect members' interests in new media.
Provide research, analysis, and strategic recommendations for the application of current contracts, business development, and negotiating strategy.
Act as liaison, and as directed, as media spokes person, to the entertainment, technology, and advertising communities regarding new media issues. This includes directing and executing plans for strategic involvement with industry events, festivals, and conferences.
Serve as liaison to all relevant member committees, either directly or through supervision of appropriate staff. Actively manage internal decision-making processes to ensure timeliness and maximize consensus. Act in new media advisory capacity with other appropriate member committees.
Ensure New Media department compliance with all human resources policies.
Attract and retain committed, results-oriented New Media staff and provide a rewarding career path through personal engagement, supervision, training and development.
Develop and oversee department budget and related committee budgets.
Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
(The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities)
In depth knowledge of new media technology and the ability and desire to stay abreast of consumer electronics and media.
Knowledge of entertainment industry structure and business practices (TV, cable, film, new media) preferred.
Must be computer proficient in office applications.
Must be proficient in social media.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to follow through.
Excellent interpersonal and effective written and oral communication skills, both orally and in writing, and proven ability to effectively communicate with staff and management.
Must be a motivated self-starter.
Able to work with local and national member committees within the Union.
Ability to work well under pressure.
Ability to work well within a team.
Collaborative management style and detail oriented.
Ability to supervise staff.
Valid California State Drivers license, proof of insurance and a personal vehicle.
Able to organize, prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks under daily deadlines

Superlative interpersonal skills: high degree of patience and tact. Must be able to cultivate respectful, strategic and collaborative relationships with people from diverse backgrounds both internally and externally
Have an understanding and awareness of worker rights impacting SAG-AFTRA members

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and/or Experience:
BA degree in relevant field. Graduate degree a plus.
6-10 years of relevant work experience including management and direct supervision of staff.
Knowledge of entertainment, advertising, and technology industries preferred.
Travel required.
