POSITION PURPOSE:
Manage daily local contracts function including supervisory duties. Support Executive Director in implementation of all related initiatives and policies; make effective recommendations regarding process improvement in practices related to non-broadcast contracts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This section provides a general summary of the most significant job duties performed. It does not explain in detail every single duty performed.
- Manages the local contracts function and makes decisions in consultation with the Executive Director.
- Makes recommendations that meet local Chicago member and union goals.
- Responsible for consistent review of all departmental procedures to keep abreast of development in commercials and co-educational in the local area.
- Manages the training of personnel in all aspects of contract functions, including claims, member advocacy, and contract enforcement, member relations, set visits, signatory issues, and agent and employer relations on issues affecting the department, and outreach within the Chicago commercial and co-educational community.
- Performs Initial review of waiver requests (with assistance from the Local Executive Director where appropriate) with employers and acts as a liaison with National Contract Staff. Process and approve PSA waiver requests, Transfer of Rights/Assumption Agreements, signatory requests, waivers for minors.
- Manages commercials and co-educational functions to optimize member outcomes.
- Prepares strategies and implements plans to maintain and/or improve member satisfaction with their union interactions.
- Interpretation and administration of CBAs for work produced under the jurisdiction of the Chicago Local: TV & Radio commercials, co-ed/non-broadcast, local and national radio programs, public service radio programs, interactive media, infomercials, audio news releases.
- Review and check for compliance: production reports, member reports, Taft Hartley reports, Schedule E, employment contracts, overpayment notices.
- Initiation and collection of claims.
- Develop material for new member and talent agent orientation.
- Produce outreach material for advertising agencies, casting directors, freelance producers, production companies, non-members, students, educators.
- Assist producers, agents, casting directors, and members with talent payment estimates, flipping non-union to union, assist with special skills casting.
- Monthly Local Board reports: Claims Collected, PSAs Approved, New/Re-sign Signatories, Flipped Jobs.
- Coordinate meetings and caucuses, compiles and distributes minutes of the wages and working conditions committees.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
(The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.)
- Experience with administration of collective bargaining agreements.
- Must be able to handle confrontational, volatile and stressful situations in a calm manner with patience, diplomacy and tact (combined with an intrepid approach to the work).
- Excellent listening skills.
- Ability to communicate persuasively and effectively with performers and production personnel.
- Must have high level of initiative to handle work which is largely unsupervised.
- Ability to work in a very high paced environment.
- Able to organize and coordinate multiple tasks under daily deadlines.
- Able to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to expedite heavy workload efficiently.
- Detail oriented.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to effectively articulate complex contract issues and compose original correspondence and reports.
- Demonstrated interpretative and analytic ability.
- Able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Superlative interpersonal skills-must be able to cultivate strategic and collaborative relationships internally and externally.
- Must be able to work in a very stressful environment where constructive feedback from others is encouraged.
- Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined at SAG-AFTRA's sole discretion.
- Holds self and others accountable for a high level of performance and unquestionable integrity.
- Have an understanding and awareness of worker rights impacting SAG-AFTRA member.
- Must be available and willing to work extended hours per day or per week (and/or overtime for applicable non- exempt positions), including weekends and holidays, as SAG-AFTRA determines is necessary to meet its business needs.
- Must be available and willing to travel to such locations and with such frequency as SAG-AFTRA determines is necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and/or Experience:
- Four-year undergraduate degree from accredited college or university highly preferred; advanced degree a plus.
- Three to five years of labor contract administration or relevant experience required.
- Ability to excel in leadership/management role.
- Experience in a union environment preferred.
