Search for Freelance Costume Designer jobs in Chicago-IL
The Freelance Costume Designer will work with the Senior Director of Creative Development in order to successfully complete the target number of approved designs. This position can be fulfilled from any location.
The Freelance Costume Designer will:
- Draw inspiration from trends, fashion, pop-culture, music and the dance world.
- Design specifically to meet our collection targets
- Complete an assigned number of clear and clean renderings by the outlined deadline including front view, back view and fabric/trim/accessory layout.
- Communicate with Director on a daily to weekly basis as necessary
- Familiarize yourself with the current collection in order to fill any missing holes within the catalogue as well as to avoid repeating designs or concepts
- Once a design is approved, complete any necessary technical drawings or construction details.
- Provide source information for all new fabrics & trims
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
Education:
B.A., B.F.A. or M.F.A preferred
• A deep passion for and interest in the world of dance including an understanding of multiple dance genres including but not limited to (hip hop, jazz, tap, ballet, contemporary and lyrical)
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience designing costumes for dance, opera or theatre.
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator or PhotoShop
• Extreme attention to detail.
• Creative thinker, but also able to design in order to fit within a collection
• Must have access to the tools necessary to send digital files (.jpgs) of renderings & materials in a pre-designed layout
• Willingness to sign a non-compete agreement as well as a confidentiality waiver.
