Resonance is a screenwriting fellowship designed to cultivate the unique writing talents of bilingual and bicultural Mandarin-English screenwriters and writer-directors. Similar to other diversity talent incubators, the program will invite up to 10 writers to participate in a yearlong paid fellowship in Los Angeles. Selected fellows will learn invaluable industry knowledge and competencies that will prepare them for a sustained career in China and the U.S. while experiencing the ''real world'' rigors of sustained story development in both television and film. The program is designed to be intensive with the goal of seeing writers graduate having created content strong enough to go into actual production.
The Creative Executive will play a vital role as the primary mentor and supervisor for the fellows. This seasoned professional MUST HAVE the ability to: foster the professional growth of emerging writers; develop film and television material with writers; and demonstrate a bicultural understanding of the Chinese market. The position reports to the Executive Director and works collaboratively with the Program Manager.
Responsibilities
• Supervise the development of simultaneous projects through concept, treatment, draft, and re-write phases.
• Provides professional mentorship for six writers/writer-directors; meets one-on-one weekly.
• Utilizes strong writing skills to develop film and television material and deliver solutions-based notes.
• Oversees all aspects of the program curriculum with the goal of fostering exemplary growth in each of the writers.
• Collaborates with the Executive Director and external partners to develop content that appeals to a U.S. and/or Chinese audience.
Qualifications
• Minimum 4 years experience in a Creative Executive capacity or related role. within a studio or production company environment.
• Bilingual proficiency strongly preferred, bicultural competency ESSENTIAL.
• In-depth experience working with and/or nurturing Writers.
• Proven ability to assess potential creative concepts for production.
• Proven ability to assess strong story lines and marketability for a Chinese and/or American audience.
• Solid knowledge of physical film production.
• Interpersonal qualities that exemplify a great creative collaborator: flexibility, resilience, emotional intelligence, and collegiality.
• BA or MFA in Film/Screenwriting, or a related field.
