Who we're looking for…
RWS & Associates is currently seeking a talented Wardrobe Manager to serve as an in-house costume designer and costume manager for client accounts spanning corporate events, theme parks, cruise ships and other projects.
About the role…
Reporting to a Senior Director, the Wardrobe Manager will bring their expertise in theatrical costuming to provide design skills and run wardrobe operations for accounts as assigned. This role will act as a Company liaison and provide leadership to outside clients, vendors, contractors and internal staff as assigned.
What's expected…
• Create sketched designs and mood board proposals for client submissions ranging from children's theatre to shows for sophisticated audiences.
• Oversee sourcing, shopping, build and construction of all costume items required for assigned projects.
• Liaise and negotiate with current and potential vendors to ensure items sourced are most cost effective and durable.
• Coordinate all wardrobe needs between outsourced designers, build shops, vendors and talent.
• Forecast and manage Wardrobe expenses and expense reports, ensuring deliverables remain within budgetary guidelines.
• Inventory and manage an expansive stock of costumes, shoes, wigs, jewelry and accessories.
• Coordinate all account costume shipments, overseeing manifests.
• Record and document (electronic and hard copies) all information relating to account wardrobe data as reference for future recreations and documentation purposes.
• Provide leadership and training to department interns.
What you bring…
• Minimum three (3) years working as a designer and builder in a wardrobe or costume department.
• Bachelor's degree in Theatre Costuming or Fashion, or comparable work experience working in a theatre or entertainment production company wardrobe or costume department.
• Proficiency in MS Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Knowledge of costume resources and build shops in NYC and beyond.
• Ability to meet deadlines, sometimes with narrow time and budget constraints, managing multiple projects at the same time.
• Skills in strong construction techniques including: pattern making, fitting, measuring, dropping, cutting, stitching, quick turnaround alterations, wig styling and research skills.
• Adept in hand and machine sewing and finishing with an understanding of theatrical costume and construction techniques and terms.
• Ability to embellish shopped garments or stock costumes.
• Experience designing and/or building for theme park and/or cruise ships.
• Posses an exceptional eye for design and style. Craft skills, mask making, dyeing, paint, millinery and shoe maintenance skills a plus.
• Forward thinking. Bringing recommendations to better the Wardrobe Department so it will run efficiently and effectively.
