Attorney, Business & Legal Affairs
Responsibilities:
• Advise company regarding potential risks and issues, and propose practical solutions on business and legal issues related to the exploitation of the content (e.g., guild issues, chain of title, and other matters).
• Review, analyze, and track production, distribution, and rights agreements; counsel company on contractual interpretation, production and distribution obligations, intellectual property usage, and pre-litigation dispute resolution.
• Assist in the maintenance of the company's intellectual property portfolio.
• Create, update, analyze, and manage forms and legal documents.
• Work on corporate and transactional matters as necessary.
• Manage special projects, miscellaneous legal and corporate compliance matters, and provide general advice and counsel on legal issues to company.
• Provide company with necessary information (often concerning legal rights and responsibilities) in order to make informed business decisions.
• Maintain the integrity of company's business practices and policies.
• Manage use of outside counsel in a cost effective manner.
Qualifications:
• JD degree from an accredited law school and admitted to practice law in the State of California or Registered with the California Bar as in house counsel.
• Prior entertainment law experience with production/distribution company or law firm.
• Sound business judgment, and flexibility/adaptability to manage multiple, wide-ranging matters and new areas of expertise as business needs change.
• Outstanding analytical, communication, organizational, consulting, drafting, and negotiation skills with the ability to make well-reasoned legal judgments.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with company's business personnel.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to deal tactfully and confidently with a variety of personal styles across a large number of diverse internal and external groups.
• Teamwork-oriented attitude.
