Temporary Archives Technician
SUMMARY:
We are seeking an Archives Technician to help us prepare our collection for an upcoming move.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in the organization, identification, and processing of materials from the archives’ collection, which include: artwork, sculptures, papers, photographs, and other non-traditional materials. Assist in preparation of inventories, collection guides, and other basic cataloging and documentation for use during the physical move of materials and for tracking into the future. Perform basic archival preservation utilizing such techniques as archival refoldering, reboxing, and sleeving of documents. Conduct extensive shelf-reads to confirm contents of collection prior to and following the move.
• Masters of Library and Information science and/or 2 years experience at an archives setting
• Strong organizational skills with an eye for detail
• Experience in arrangement and description of visual as well as textual collections
• Flexible nature with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks/ activities simultaneously
• Excellent people skills with strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong administrative, detail and follow-up skills
• Positive ‘can do' attitude while maintaining a high level of professionalism
• Working knowledge of database management software a plus (Excel, Filemaker Pro)
• Film production and/or Art background preferred
REQUIREMENTS:
• Willing and able to work independently within the collection at the offsite archives
• Frequent reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching
• Frequent lifting, pulling, or pushing up to 30 lbs
• Environmental conditions that include lower temperatures (58-70°F) and workspaces with multiple obstructions
• Travel requirements include daily travel between main campus and offsite archives
• Valid California driver's license required, and access to a car necessary
