Technical Director, Lighting
SUMMARY:
Pixar is looking for Technical Directors to utilize three-dimensional animation software to design and implement lighting in feature films and commercial projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for technical aspects of producing three-dimensional computer animated films, with a specialty of lighting design and implementation
• Establish and fine tune direct and reflected lighting and shadows for each assigned shot to realize the look and style working with the resources and support provided, including the master lighting for each sequence, creative guidance from the Lighting Director of Photography, technical support from Senior Lighting Technical Directors, storyboards, and shot lighting packets
• Assemble incoming data (models, looks, animation, efx) from upstream departments for lighting adjustments
• Create light rigs and adjust the lighting in those files -- render the necessary levels and use appropriate compositing software to create a composite tree that combines the rendered levels and adjust the final composite until it meets the vision of the Director, Art Directors and Lighting DP
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Animation or related field and 2 years of work experience in job offered or 2 years of work experience in an 3D lighting/composition-related occupation
• Education or experience must include:
• Color, contrast and lighting design
• Production experience with 3-D lighting and compositing
• Working knowledge of a node-based compositing system (i.e. Nuke)
• Renderman/Mtor or similar software
• Unix or Linux
• Demonstrate ability to distinguish subtle differences that affect the matching of elements created in multiple mediums
• Experience with GI and physically accurate lighting
• Experience with scene management, complex setups and lights
• Understanding of high-end 3D production pipeline
