In anticipation of potential internships in our Systems Department during the Summer 2017, we are accepting resumes for the following areas:
• MEDIA SYSTEMS INTERNSHIP
Pixar's Media Systems team, known as The Avengers, are responsible for all the audio/video infrastructure in the studio, including the theaters, screening rooms, recording studios, edit suites, conference rooms, telecom and live event support. The internship is geared towards students interested in a career supporting media systems and offers hand-on experience and exposure to our unique environment. You'll be trouble shooting and maintaining A/V systems, installing consumer A/V equipment and learning a lot about cabling systems. Requires that you are highly motivated, mature and eager to help solve issues for the studio and user regarding all A/V matters. If you are passionate about audio and video, have been the person to help your family set up their home theater systems or set-up the speaker system for your friend's band, we'd love to hear from you.
• SYSTEMS MAC TEAM INTERNSHIP
Pixar's Mac Support Team has an internship geared toward students wanting to pursue a career in systems administration. The opportunity is intended to give you hands-on experience and exposure to Pixar's unique creative environment. This group is responsible for the admin duties supporting OSC and iOS where you'll gain experience working in Terminal, Apple Remote Desktop and Casper. Requires someone who is motivated and eager to be a part of a Mac-centric team who has an innate customer service orientation when it comes to supporting studio and end users needs. Must have a strong sense of organization and able to juggle multiple projects in order to meet timely deadlines. If you're the person who gets a call anytime a friend or family member needs help with their Mac or are someone who clears the calendar for Apple Event webcasts, we'd love to hear from you.
• SYSTEMS SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT INTERNSHIP
Pixar's Systems Software Development team, affectionately known as Port 80, is responsible for creating and maintaining a variety of internal and external web applications, many of which are used on a daily basis to keep both the Systems department and the studio running. This is an opportunity where you'll work on a couple of small to medium-sized projects with the hope that you'll be able to deploy something internally that folks will use while you're still here. You'll be part of the development, testing and deployment cycle for the code you write which needs to be robust and well-written so that it lives on after you've completed your internship! Requires someone who can quickly familiarize themselves with our development environment. Some examples of the software we use are python, javascript, apache/nginx, ansible, bash, Linux/MacOSX, git, py.test, Flask or angular JS. If you're the sort who gets excited when you find a new, cool web app or enjoys the world of hackathons, we'd love to hear from you.
• BIG DATA ANALYSIS INTERNSHIP
Pixar's Data Analytics and Optimization team is hiring an intern to help discover the information hidden in vast amounts of production-based data. We have large quantities of structured and unstructured data, thousands of render servers that access the data in various ways, and large quantities of metadata describing these access patterns. Your mission, should you accept it, is to uncover compute and IO patterns across our rendering pipelines leading to more sophisticated automation and anomaly detection and, ultimately, better movies! Requires applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc. You'll also need scripting and programming skills in one or more modern programming languages such as Python or GO, experience with streaming analytics and streaming environments (Kafka, Kinesis, etc), data indexing and searching tools (ElasticSearch, Splunk, etc.), KV stores and distributed caches (Redis, MongoDB and memcached) and familiarity with modern Linux kernals, performance tools and tracing facilities. No problem, right? If you're a data-oriented personality who loves to discover, break, build and optimize, it'd be great to hear from you!
