Release Engineer
SUMMARY:
Pixar’s Studio Tools group is responsible for developing and maintaining Pixar’s in-house film production software. The Build and Release Engineering team creates, maintains, and supports internal tools for building and testing that software, deploying software releases to our artists, and managing software configurations post-deployment.
The Release Engineer will work in an evolving, fast-paced environment requiring creative thinking, individual initiative, collaboration within the team and with other teams, and attention to detail. Responsibilities include improving the performance, usability, and scalability of our testing and release automation tools, fixing bugs, writing unit tests, giving and receiving code reviews, and communicating changes in the development workflow to the rest of Studio Tools and our technical artists. Skills such as debugging performance issues in both scripts and compiled programs, optimizing database queries, and developing APIs will come in handy.
The Build and Release Engineering team works in an environment centered around Linux, Python, Perforce, JavaScript/AJAX, and MySQL, but we welcome engineers with different backgrounds who bring new ideas to the team. Experience with technologies like git, C/C or Java, provisioning tools, web application frameworks, virtualization/containerization technologies, non-relational data stores, message brokers, and continuous integration/deployment will all prove valuable. If you’ve worked in an animation, VFX, or game production environment before, you’ll understand some of our unique challenges.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience writing medium-sized or large applications using Python, C , Java, or similar languages
• Enthusiasm for working in a team-oriented, collaborative development environment
• Excellent communication skills
• Background in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Also, you must have proof of legal authority to accept employment in the U.S.
If you fit most of what we’ve described here, please apply—we’d love to hear from you!
Pixar is an equal opportunity employer.
