Mac Infrastructure Administrator
SUMMARY:
The Macintosh Infrastructure team builds, maintains, and supports the tools that keep our fleet of Macs integrated with the filmmaking goals of the studio and running smoothly for both the end-users and the Frontline Support team. We come up with creative ways to combine home-grown and third-party tools to provide our users with a computing experience geared towards their task: making great movies. The systems we create affect almost every part of Pixar, and are constantly evolving to reflect the needs of the studio and the new technologies available.
You are a well-rounded, self-motivated Macintosh System Administrator who has both an inner unix-geek and an outward sense of creative individuality. You’re at ease in a terminal window, and have been known to write scripts to automate even esoteric tasks, just because you can. You love seeing ‘the big picture’ of how many pieces can fit together to create a greater whole, and when you make a novel connection between parts of that picture, you can’t wait to share your discovery. You are comfortable communicating effectively with a variety of coworkers and recognizing shared goals. You laugh often.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supporting the Frontline team as they support the end-users
• Testing and deployment of new and updated software to client Macs
• Troubleshooting, maintenance and development of a suite of command-line and GUI tools
• Supporting Mac-based rendering tasks with the Frontline and Render Pipeline teams
• Recognizing areas for improvement, and working to realize those improvements
• Implementing policy changes on the client Macs via the most appropriate methods
• Documenting the tools and systems you build or maintain
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Three years of OS X system administration experience
• Experience automating tasks in Bash, Ruby, Python, Perl, or similar languages
• An enthusiasm for learning new skills
• Ability to troubleshoot complex systems
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Self motivated with an ability to successfully prioritize tasks
• Comfort with other flavors of Unix
BONUS POINTS:
• Familiarity with JAMF’s Casper Suite
• Experience with VMs and vSphere
