Build Support Engineer
SUMMARY:
Pixar’s Software R&D group is responsible for developing and maintaining Pixar’s in-house film production software. The Build and Release Engineering team creates, maintains, and supports internal tools for building and testing that software, deploying software releases to our artists, and managing software configurations post-deployment.
The Build Support Engineer will work in an evolving environment requiring creative thinking, individual initiative, collaboration within the team and with other teams, and attention to detail. Responsibilities include maintaining our SCons- and cmake-based build systems and our release toolset, helping engineers add new functionality or new code to the system, installing/building software dependencies, and supporting both internal and open-source contributors in their efforts to build our software. The Build Support Engineer also plays a crucial role in managing software configurations, code patches, and stability releases.
The Build and Release Engineering team’s world is centered around Linux, Python, Perforce, MySQL, SCons, and cmake, but we welcome engineers with different backgrounds who bring new ideas to the team. Experience with technologies like git, Jenkins, Ansible, and RPM will come in handy, as will experience reading code written in C and interpreting compile errors. If you’ve worked in an animation, VFX, or game production environment before, you’ll understand some of our unique challenges.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Experience programming in common scripting languages like Python and bash
• A strong interest in the software build and release process
• Enthusiasm for providing support and a great software infrastructure to engineering teams
• Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
• Background in Computer Science or equivalent experience
If you fit most of what we’ve described here, please apply—we’d love to hear from you!
