Job description
HollywoodLife com, a leading digital brand within the rapidly expanding Penske Media Corporation (PMC), has an immediate opening for a Managing Editor to oversee the daily operations of the editorial team, responsible for development and production of 50+ news posts per day. The Managing Editor is a member of the management team, who works closely with the Editor-in-Chief to develop long-term departmental goals and strategies. Reporting directly to the Editor-in-Chief, the Managing Editor will manage editors, writers and freelancers and is also in charge of internal processes, including production and staff scheduling. The Managing Editor will act as department lead in Editor-in-Chief's absence.
All applicants must have at least 2-3 years of experience as a digital editor at a news website, preferably working working with entertainment or celebrity content.
The ideal candidate for this role will be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to handle him/herself professionally in all scenarios that can occur in a fast-paced setting - always with professionalism and innovation. Responsibilities:
Manage the day-to-day operations of the fast-paced newsroom
Manage, mentor and motivate an editorial team responsible for delivering high-impact, engaging content covering a wide range of subject matters
Ensure the standards of excellence are met in editing
Oversee staff scheduling
Participate in meetings and discussions to brainstorm creative projects campaigns, discuss direction of projects, and facilitate team workflow
Write and edit content
Establish and manage a network of freelancers for ongoing content creation
Recruit, hire and manage college interns
Train new staffers
Desired Skills and Experience
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
Minimum of three years of newsroom experience
Digital/social media literacy and technology skill sets are mandatory
Decision-making, problem-solving and leadership skills
Excellent news judgment and ability to ensure high editorial and research standards under tight deadlines
Strong editing and writing skills to produce impactful, authentic content
Demonstrated ability to lead the newsroom
Effective communication and presentation skills
Demonstrated ability to take initiative, manage multiple priorities, organize time effectively, complete assignments on time and follow-up with strong attention to detail
Superior people management skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization.
Ability to work irregular hours, evenings and occasional weekends; compliance to keep phone on all the time and be on call 24/7.
