Participant Media is looking for an attorney with 2 to 5 years of media transactional experience to join the team. This is a full-time position working out of our Beverly Hills office. For each of its projects, Participant creates social action and advocacy programs to transform the impact of the media experience into individual and community action. Participant's films include the current international success, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, and the recent Academy Award-winning box office hit The Help, Steven Soderbergh's thriller, Contagion, and such Oscar-winning or nominated titles as An Inconvenient Truth, The Cove, Food, Inc., Good Night and Good Luck, Syriana, The Kite Runner, Charlie Wilson's War and The Visitor.
Responsibilities:
• Key responsibilities will involve handling business/legal matters for Participant Media's digital division as the Company continues its expansion into the digital media space via its film and television campaigns, website, new products and various social media platforms and third party partnerships, including the Company's upcoming original YouTube Channel, TakePart TV.
• Day-to-day duties will include (i) providing counsel to the Company's digital content, product, technology, marketing and sales teams, (ii) serving as the business affairs point person between the digital division and the Company's other divisions including the Film, Television, Social Action and Marketing groups, (iii) negotiating deal terms and drafting and reviewing content development, production and distribution contracts for the Company's original and acquired web-based productions, along with marketing, promotional and sales agreements, and (iv) handling business/legal for the Company's digital campaigns for Participant's films and other cause marketing initiatives.
• Additional duties include:
o Ensuring the digital division's compliance with Company policies, third party agreements and applicable laws and regulations.
o Overseeing the implementation of the digital division's content management system to track inbound and outbound content licenses and rights issues.
o Working with the Company's outside counsel to maintain and update terms of use, privacy policies and remain up to speed on applicable privacy, e-mail marketing and other regulatory issues.
o Supporting the Company's expansion into mobile and other digital products and platforms.
Other duties/special projects as assigned
Requirements:
• 2-5+ years of digital, entertainment, intellectual property, and/or other relevant subject matter legal expertise
• JD Degree and member of the California Bar
• Knowledgeable of entertainment industry production, distribution and licensing
• Related business and legal experience with a studio, network, production company or digital business
• Outstanding analytic, communication, negotiation, and legal drafting skills
• Ability to identify and resolve legal issues quickly and communicate effectively to all levels of the organization
• Sound business judgment, and flexibility/adaptability to manage multiple wide-ranging matters, conflicting deadlines, and new areas of expertise as business needs change
