TakePart, the digital division of Participant Media, is seeking a software engineer to help build and maintain large-scale web applications. TakePart is among the web's top pro-social media brands and the digital arm of Participant Media, the entertainment company behind groundbreaking documentary and narrative features such as Contagion, Food Inc, An Inconvenient Truth, and The Help. This is an exciting opportunity from a media company whose mission is to create entertainment that inspires and compels social change.
The ideal candidate will be a proficient Ruby developer who is also multidimensional and capable of assisting in an array of developer tasks when needed.
Responsibilities:
• Work with internal and external teams to develop and maintain large-scale, high-availability web applications
• Seamlessly integrate user interface elements into scalable backend services
• Provide consistent technical leadership, anticipating and resolving potential roadblocks
• Optimize code reuse through efficient coding techniques
• Maintain a disciplined approach to testing and quality assurance
Qualifications:
• B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
• 2+ years in Internet software development
• Demonstrated experience launching a Ruby on Rails app
• Experience with CoffeeScript, RSpec, and Jasmine is a plus
• Experience developing large-scale, high-availability client/server web applications
• Experience working with Drupal or other content management system a plus
• Comfort with MySQL or SQL and query optimization
• Ability to edit and work with HTML and CSS
• Comfort implementing and customizing open-source applications
• Competence working with traffic optimization techniques (e.g. sharding, caching)
• Ability to multi-task and collaborate with multiple sets of developers, both in-house and external
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
