TakePart com is seeking an assistant editor to write newsworthy stories for socially relevant Culture and Lifestyle topics, as well as manage the TakePart home page on weekends. TakePart examines Culture and Entertainment through the lens of social relevance, pulling the stories from the headlines and finding the deeper context. How is the success of Transparent changing the national conversation around sexual identity? What does Rihanna's new fashion campaign mean for women of color? And what does the representation of women in media tell our daughters about how their bodies should look? These are the stories TakePart wants to tell.
The assistant editor will also manage the TakePart's home page on weekends, working with a team of editors to keep the site and the TakePart social media accounts up to date. The Assistant Editor will write headlines, track search engine optimization for article pages, and manage general site and technology maintenance. The job will include opportunities to write stories. The right candidate has knack for clicky headlines and a fluency in digital content management systems and publishing. A strong foundation in journalism and an understanding of digital storytelling are a must.
Responsibilities:
• Finding and writing stories for TakePart's Culture section
• Updating content on TakePart home page and mobile platforms
• Monitoring article pages for search engine optimization and linkage
• Coordinating with editorial, technology and marketing teams
Qualifications:
• 1-3 years experience in a newsroom or editorial position
• Experience and basic understanding of digital journalism and storytelling
• Strong understanding of Search Engine Optimization
• Experience working with digital content management systems
• Strong foundation in digital publishing technology
