The Director, Systems Architecture and Technology is a critical and highly visible position within the Pac-12. This person is responsible for leading the design and change management efforts of the Systems Group which is responsible for change management, document control, and implementation of Pac-12 Enterprises technical systems which include; business systems, telecom, IPTV, WAN, and LAN networks, broadcast systems, and both mobile and fixed remote broadcast equipment located in San Francisco, at the twelve universities, and at the transmission distribution center located in Denver. This position reports to the VP of Technology, Engineering & Media Management.
Day-to-day responsibilities involve working closely with the Vice President of Technology, Engineering & Media Management, Senior Vice President of Production, System Integrators and Service Providers to plan and manage change. Supervising and prioritizing the work of the Systems Group and directing other members of the Pac-12 Engineering department are also main responsibilities. Work hours may include nights, weekends and holidays.
Responsibilities:
• Leadership- Participate in development of the strategic and tactical efforts of the organization as part of the department's management team in the role of subject matter expert on technology and systems architecture. Help to create and communicate departmental vision and goals. Institute and implement a change management process. Coordinate activities across project teams and Pac-12 departments.
• Management- Supervise and direct the management of the Pac-12 Systems department. Provide coaching and mentoring to staff to ensure that team members grow technically and professionally.
• Documentation- Lead the creation of Pac-12 project process documentation. Participate in the creation of process documents for other departments in the Engineering department. Create a systems documentation library and insure that documentation is maintained in an accurate state and archived for reference.
• Organizational Development- Working with the department's management team to create staff development tracks and create a succession plan with the goal of creating a primary and back-up person for each ofthe main and essential systems.
• Projects & Capital Planning- Contribute to the production of annual capital plan and operating budgets, and
• participate in managing projects to budgetary plans. Monitor, control and report budget vs. actual cost for Systems department projects. Coordinate purchasing activates for projects. Manage the work of contract engineers and installers and coordinate their scope of work and schedules with internal Pac-12 activities. Coordinate product and process evaluations and cost analysis. Prepare and present reports to management with recommendations and action plans.
• Continuity- Actively search for products, procedures, or services that will further the goals ofthe organization.
• Participate in planning and problem solving working groups within the company. Represent the Systems department in internal working committees, Participate in failure analysis in conjunction with other technical experts; recommend revisions in processes and systems where possible to improve system performance. Assist in the development of security policies, standards, and procedures. Participate in both organized and self-driven training experiences as needed to maintain knowledge of current technologies. Participate in professional seminars, symposia, and other meetings.
• Emergency- Availability to participate, respond to and manage 24x7 responses to emergency facility needs.
• Represent the Pac-12 Engineering Department to external parties including, universities, vendors, competitors and profession associations.
• Other duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
• Minimum of eight years' related technical experience, with two years of experience in a supervisory or managerial capacity within an Engineering or Technical organization.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or other related field.
• Must possess an understanding of TCP/IP, access control lists (ACLs), security, firewalls and network traffic analysis. In addition, must be internet savvy in a media production environment with regards to security, DNS, SMTP, syslog, and Virtual Private Networks {VPN).
• Demonstrated knowledge of Virtual Machine (VM) systems, Active Directory (AD) systems, SAN and NAS network
• storage systems, cloud based storage systems, and network file systems.
• Demonstrated ability to plan and prioritize under time constraints and work successfully in a fast-paced environment. Manage multiple projects simultaneously and complete them on schedule.
• In depth knowledge and experience with concepts and issues related to computing, storage virtualizations and infrastructure security.
• Able to delegate responsibilities to maximize team and individual contributions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of people, technical and non-technical employees, peers, internal and external clients, vendors, and senior management.
• Ability to be on-call 24-hours to provide support for staff and escalated trouble issues.
• Some travel required.
Preferred:
• Experience with Television broadcast and production systems, equipment and operations.
• Understanding of Video/Audio compression technologies.
• Experience with transport of video over IP on LAN and WAN infrastructures.
• Experience in Project Management and leading project teams.
• In depth experience and certifications with multiple vendor's hardware.
• Experience with VoiP, IPTV and SIP.
• Experience working with OSX, Linux and Windows operating systems in television production and office environments.
