Manager, Media Relations
POSITION SUMMARY
Based in Santa Monica, the Manager, Media Relations will be support the Media Relations and Corporate Communications department on all Ovation press and media initiatives. Key responsibilities will include researching media contacts, writing and distributing press releases to key media, notably press/broadcast/online communications; securing speaking engagements; developing media lists; assisting with events; submitting signature series for awards, etc.
The ideal candidate must have a thorough understanding of the demands and pace within a busy public relations team, have television network publicity experience or entertainment publicity experience, possess strong communications skills and be highly organized.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Reports to: Vice President, Media Relations & Corporate Communications
Other Key Relationships: Will work closely with the Consumer Marketing, Social Media and Digital teams, Production and Media services, and outside consultants.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES
• Act as the overall support for the PR department and manage own projects
• Assist in creating media alerts, fact sheets, creative pitch letters, executive talking points
• Research, write and distribute press releases to targeted media
• Pitch national and regional media
• Create and maintain updated media lists
• Prepare clip reports for executive presentations
• Identify and submit award submissions for Ovation initiatives
• Interface with and answer inquiries from media and organizations
• Assist with the maintenance of current press information on Ovation's website
• Coordinate with social media team on blogger outreach
• Interface with various departments to obtain materials - video and photo assets (clips, screeners, sizzle reels, photography); schedules; show descriptions, etc.
• Work with vendors and partners - Cision, PR Newswire, Burelle's, etc. - to secure pricing on products, services, venues, and work with finance to process payment, forms, etc.
• Participate in event development and on-site staffing
PREREQUISITES:
• Innovative thinker with creative, collaborative problem-solving abilities
• Highly skilled in traditional as well as digital PR techniques
• Excellent grammatical and proof reading skills
• Detail-oriented and able to prioritize
• Strong, creative writing skills
• Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
• Excellent organizational skills
• Able to handle multi-faceted projects with strong follow-through
• Strong knowledge of brand management principles & consumer research best practices
• Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills
• Comfort and demonstrated ability pitching press, sharing appropriate materials for story lock-in, and securing coverage
EDUCATION
• Undergraduate degree in public relations, communications science or related field
• 4-6 years working in the public relations industry, ideally in television or entertainment
