Reporting directly to the Human Resources Manager, the Payroll Clerk is responsible for compiling and processing payroll data, generating reports, and maintaining payroll records.
Responsibilities
• Maintain payroll records by processing new hires, terminations, promotions and transfers; Record changes including insurance coverage, salary increases, etc.
• Collect, compile and calculate payroll data for bi-weekly payroll
• Distribute paychecks to employees
• Prepare and distribute payroll reports, as needed, by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages
• Address employee's pay-related inquiries and provide accurate payroll information
• Investigate and correct payroll errors and discrepancies
• Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; supporting adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions
• Track vacation and sick time usage
• Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential
• Add/remove employees from health care coverage
• Submit COBRA paperwork for new and termed employees
• Assist with open enrollment period
• Act as a floater for receptionist breaks
• Perform special projects and other tasks as needed
Requirements
• 2+ year's payroll experience
• Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
• Experience with ADP
• Working knowledge of CA wage and hour laws, as well as payroll best practices
• Excellent problem solving/judgment skills, and high level of attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to deal sensitively with confidential material and exercise discretion
• Able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
