Description:
The Oakland Athletics are currently seeking a Community Relations Intern to work from February 2017 to the end of September 2017. The intern’s primary responsibilities will be assisting the Community Relations department with implementing various outreach programs for the baseball season, as well as being part of the daily activities of the department. The internship will allow the student the opportunity to gain valuable work experience within a professional baseball organization.
Responsibilities:
• Respond to requests from local and charitable organizations through written correspondence or conversation. Responsible for correspondence on the A’s Community Email.
• Work within all A's Community Fund education, baseball, donation, and event programs. Assist in the distribution of program applications and ticket vouchers.
• Assist in the distribution of education workbooks, such as Mathletics and Science of the Game and file all submitted work.
• Assist in graphic artwork and serve as a contributing writer for an article in the A’s Magazine.
• Assist community staff in off-site player appearances and community events: CF Golf Classic and A’s Bowling Bash.
• Participate in various games day activities with supervision from staff, such as pregame on field visits & player appearances.
• Assist in working Root Beer Float Day and Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
• Game Day Duties: Photographer of Community Relation Scoreboard Messages and assist in weekend Silent Auction.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
• You must be currently enrolled in either an undergraduate or graduate college or university program or have graduated within the past 12 months
• Available for a personal interview prior to the final decision
• Available for the entire duration needed the Community Relations department
• Flexible schedule that allows for the possibility of working any combination of days, evenings, weekends and evenings
• During the Regular Baseball season, interns will follow the schedule set by the department and baseball schedule.
• Available to work 15-25 hours a week
• Qualified applicants must have excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
• Experience with computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word is highly desirable
• Previous experience in Community Relations is a plus
