Director, (Digital) Consumer Insights
Overview and Responsibilities
The Director of Digital Consumer Insights is responsible for conducting qualitative and quantitative research that will inform Nickelodeon’s digital strategy. In addition to large-scale landscape studies, the director will be a key resource in developing and evaluating usability experiences across platforms to ensure that the final product engages users in age-appropriate interactions that leverage the capabilities of existing and emerging technology. The role will report to the Senior Director of the Nickelodeon Digital Consumer Insights team.
The Director will serve as a key resource in providing user insights and supporting the brands in the Nickelodeon ecosystem. Additionally, the Director will use research and analytical skills to find ways to improve the user experience of these properties and work closely with the product teams to provide design recommendations.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct large scale quantitative and qualitative studies to inform the digital strategy
• Prepare RFP’s and manage vendor relationships
• Work directly with designers, product managers, and research directors to identify and prioritize research opportunities in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. Projects would cover product development from concept to launch
• Develop research schedules and align priorities with the larger strategy of the organization
• Oversee research on how users interact with and experience the various virtual worlds and games under the Nickelodeon Games Group.
• Collect, analyze and interpret data gathered through benchmark studies, lab studies, and surveys
• Oversee rapid iterative usability testing of wireframes, mockups, and prototypes
• Translate research findings into design recommendations to quickly improve product designs early in the production cycle
• Evangelize research findings to senior staff through written reports and oral presentations
• Coordinate with the Digital Analytics team to provide insight related to audience behavio
Provide insights on child development
Basic Qualifications
• Proven experience in data analysis and research methods such as formal and informal usability testing, ethnographic research, contextual inquiry, think-alouds, task and use-case analysis, heuristic analysis, user personas, etc.
• Proven experience in managing a team and driving success
• Strong background in child development and experience working with kids across age groups (preschoolers and 6-11-year-olds)
• Experience presenting research findings and recommendations to product, brand, and executive teams.
• An advanced dgree or equivalent experience, preferably in human computer interaction, cognitive science, developmental psychology, media studies, educational technology, or related field
• At least 5-7 years of work experience in an applied research setting. Internet, mobile, gaming or experience working with children are a plus
• Experience integrating user research into product designs and design practices

• Strong understanding of both current and future trends in Internet and mobile technologies, gaming, and online/mobile design with a critical awareness of implications on user-centered design and functionality.
