The Opportunity
Fueled by the broad appeal of being able to instantly enjoy unlimited movies and TV shows, Netflix has grown to have over 100 million streaming members in over 190 countries. We are looking for a talented, seasoned event professional, which will be based in the Singapore office, to join a team that is spearheading promotional campaigns across Asia. Netflix is a fast growing and highly admired company, so join us for a chance to strategize, plan and execute events alongside a team that is working on series and films that feature high production value from the brightest filmmakers and actors in the industry, using the latest technology. We need an expert who will understand the different cultures and idiosyncrasies of the markets across Asia.
The Role
The Director, Events will play a key role in strategizing, executing and managing events for the APAC publicity team, which crosses documentaries, series and films. The ideal candidate has worked handling events for film, TV or entertainment brands, and they have managed growing teams. He/she will be able to communicate with filmmakers, talent representatives, agencies, executives and production partners on efforts. They can formulate, oversee and manage a budget, and give visibility into their process successfully. Pack your bags because travel is a requirement.
The ideal candidate is able to make wise decisions, even when faced with ambiguity and thinks strategically. He/she is not defined by past experiences and eager to put a new spin on what an event can be. (This is real important to us and it should be very important to you!) They can articulate what they are - and are not - trying to do. He or she is a good listener and a real doer, and is able to multi-task and work at a clip pace. Most importantly, they can guide a team to do all of the same and work as autonomous adults. They are organized, thorough and not afraid to get their hands dirty - and that will mean jumping in to handle tasks that range from hiring an agency to plan an event, to maintaining and updating guest lists, to booking a venue themselves for an event or to working a check-in table. We are a small team, so the responsibility is wide-ranging.
They collaborate well with partners that range from the publicists overseeing global strategy to content/programming to marketing to social to product and beyond. Strong candidates can handle a vast amount of work and even though they lead the team, they are eager to learn. They are curious and also contribute effectively outside of their speciality. A good fit in the role has a candid and direct communication style, they are willing to admit to mistakes quickly and questions values inconsistent with our values. They understand that sometimes the job requires delivering bad news, and they're tactful in handling such issues.
Qualifications
The successful candidate for Director, Events, APAC will have 10 years of entertainment experience organizing, planning, executing and staffing events at an agency, studio, network, production company or with a brand. International experience is a bonus. BA/BS required.
Languages
Ability to speak/write in English is essential; Chinese/Mandarin or Korean fluency is a plus.
