Full Time Job
On the heels of the launch of our first original film Beasts of No Nation and continued acclaim for our television projects including Narcos, House of Cards and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt among many others, we have stellar slate of new projects coming to Netflix this year and beyond, and we are looking to fill a role on our publicity team for a director of awards for original publicity. We are looking for a grown up, someone who enjoys strategizing and implementing film and TV award campaigns, and has managed a team. This is a very hands on role, one that will entail you to know the awards landscape (and the playbook backwards and forwards). Then, we will challenge you to throw that playbook out the window, and push to innovate with us. If, you: live and breathe entertainment, consider film, television and music award campaigns good fun, and manage your own awards list in your spare time, you are just who we are looking for and we want to talk to you.
The Opportunity
Fueled by the broad appeal of being able to instantly enjoy unlimited movies and TV shows, Netflix has grown to have over 81 million streaming members in over 190 countries. This is a great opportunity to join a team that is spearheading and handling awards campaigns for the largest Internet TV network in the world, with a chance to work on projects that feature high production value from the brightest filmmakers and actors around the world, using the latest technology.
The Role
The Awards Director will play a key role in strategizing, executing and managing award campaigns for our films and series. They are a member of a seasoned group of professionals based in the Beverly Hills office, and they will manage a team that has both TV and film expertise that includes campaigns, festivals, etc.
The Director will help create, shape, execute and manage awards campaigns for our films and series, making use of multiple global earned media channels, including broadcast, print and online, and working collaboratively with marketing to exploit paid channels. He/she will play a critical role in communicating with filmmakers, talent and production company partners in support of awards campaigns for titles. They will focus on creating cultural moments and high impact campaigns, explore new tactics of promoting Netflix and our titles, and will be able to communicate different facets of their campaigns to executives, filmmakers, talent and talent representatives. They have managed and overseen mailings to Academy members and various guild groups. International experience or knowledge of international media is a bonus. She or he has also worked alongside agencies, or has managed agencies on projects. They can formulate and manage a budget, and give visibility into their work process successfully. Travel is sometimes required.
The ideal candidate is able to make wise decisions, even when faced with ambiguity and thinks strategically. He/she is not defined by past experiences and eager to put a new spin on what a campaign can be. (This is real important to us and it should be very important to you!) They can articulate what they are - and are not - trying to do. He or she is a good listener and a real doer, and is able to multi-task and work at a clip pace. They are not afraid to get their hands dirty - and that could mean jumping in to handle tasks big and small. We are a small team, so the responsibility really is wide-ranging. They collaborate well with partners that range from content to marketing to social to product and beyond. Strong candidates can handle a vast amount of work and they are eager to learn. They are curious and also contribute effectively outside of their speciality. A good fit in the role has a candid and direct communication style, they are willing to admit to mistakes quickly and questions values inconsistent with our values and Netflix culture. They understand that sometimes the job requires delivering bad news, and they're tactful in handling such issues.
