Full Time Job
This Editorial Specialist is the liaison between HQ and the editorial offices of the local-language editions (LLE) of National Geographic magazine and Traveler, which collectively number just over 50. In addition to being a hub for photographic requests from LLEs, this position includes production and design responsibilities. The candidate must have a wide range of skills ranging from photo editing to familiarity with programs such as InDesign and Photoshop. This is not a photo editing position, but it does include some review of the photography being published in our LLEs. Ideal candidate would possess the necessary organizational skills for managing requests from multiple licensees on deadline. Since most communications are written (via email) and most recipients use English as a second language, responsiveness, interpersonal skills, clear communication style, and diplomacy are all paramount.
Responsibilities
• From existing photographic coverage, secure images (including color correction and file posting) for cover selections for the local-language editions as well as other images for use inside the magazine, including departments and sidebars. Compile monthly pdf of cover images for both magazines.
• Review rights for such new images in contracts.
• Respond to article requests for publishing in Traveler editions. Post files for relevant edition.
• Request post-publication pdfs from Traveler editions. With guidance from the Editorial Directors, review pdfs to ensure compliance with editorial standards and practices.
• Under guidance from the Editorial Directors, review cover selections for Traveler editions.
• Assist with general design and editorial requests.
• Serve as a liaison for queries regarding websites and social media usage (this will phase out by the end of 2017).
• Regularly post schedules and updates for NGM and Traveler editions.
Qualifications:
• Bachelors degree required, preferably in visual communications or journalism.
• Proficiency in Abdobe Photoshop and InDesign.
• Proficiency in another language is a plus.
