Full Time Job
The Assistant Photo Editor will work primarily with editors, interactive designers and web producers to research and find photography, clear rights, color-correct images, ingest into content management systems and archive images. The position requires highly developed organizational and communications skills and the ability to collaborate with other editors to illustrate stories and create galleries reflective of National Geographic's photographic standards. The Assistant Photo Editor will focus on daily News coverage and report to the Senior Photo Editor and Deputy Director of Photography for Digital.
Responsibilities
• Handle production work in content management system for News photo team.
• Research, develop, clear rights, ingest into content management systems, archive and edit content for National Geographic's daily news coverage.
• Work in collaboration with Proof photography blog, video, to produce and highlight original digital content.
• Contribute to Proof photography blog and social media networks.
• Cultivate new sources for imagery and maintain relationships in the photo community with an eye towards producing stories and galleries for National Geographic News.
Qualifications:
•
Bachelor's degree.
•
2 years' experience as a photo editor at editorial publication or equivalent.
•
Knowledge of photographic community and sources for great photography.
•
Strong research and communication skills.
•
Ability to problem solve creatively.
•
Experience in daily web journalism and proficiency in social media networks.
