NYU-TV seeks an Operations Manager to join New York University's own closed-circuit television network and in-house video production department. Our mission is to inform, educate and entertain the global NYU community and beyond. We're in the business of capturing, creating, and distributing exciting content through comprehensive, professional video production and post-production services.
With over 150+ live events per year, this is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in an ever-changing production environment. We're looking for someone who is excited to join a highly collaborative team, excited about new technologies, and who seeks the rewarding experience of working in an academic environment with staff, faculty, and students. The ideal candidate has a wide expanse of video production experience and strong understanding of workflow and media management for field, studio, and post-production, including staff supervision. Additionally, this position plays a key role in the development and execution of digital production strategies, including overseeing the digital asset management system, live webcasting, and video-on-demand platforms.
Responsibilities Include:
• Manage technical operations and the technical staff of the NYU-TV Center, which provides video production services in addition to television content distribution to the NYU community. This includes: field production and live streaming resources, studio productions and facilities, as well as technical operations for NYU-TV, the University's closed-circuit television network and video-on-demand archive.
• Responsible for ensuring that all facilities and resources are in working order and meet professional technical standards of operations.
• Manage the integration and cross purposing of technical infrastructure in order to meet demands for new services provided locally and delivered globally.
• Manage internal networked systems and servers, such as digital asset management systems and non-linear editing suites, including routine and daily troubleshooting of system problems.
• Ensure all systems are documented and follow University standards.
• Manage and supervise production staff in day to day operations in support of video production & post-production.
• Manage complex repairs and maintenance as well as research for purchase equipment and systems upgrades and replacement as needed by present and future operations.
• Oversee and engage in the development of service models for delivering video content produced by TVCenter to NYU global sites.
• Collaborate with colleagues to establish workflow and technical solutions for new services.
Qualifications
Required:
• 3-5 years of video production and coordination, facilities/studio operations or engineering responsibilities including systems administration or combination of these elements.
• Direct work experience in a post production environment with work flow and quality control responsibilities.
• Supervision of facilities and resources including studio production, streaming media and other forms of IP video distribution.
• Strong technical and engineering skills of video cameras and support equipment and systems as well as post-production equipment in a non-linear tape-less HD workflow.
• In-depth knowledge of streaming services and platforms. Supervisory experience of technical staff. Ability to communicate tasks to others and track accomplishments of staff. Good oral and written communications, creation and implementation of work-flow routines.
• Bachelor's or equivalent degree plus professional training in related field of work in video production & post-production and or video networked systems administration.
Preferred:
• Video and post-production including camera, lighting, audio or systems design for specification and purchasing. Computer programming experience and network administration.
• Knowledge of production facility systems design and signal flow as well as digital post-production infrastructure.
• Experience in installation of video production/post-production systems, equipment and servers.
• Established production management and supervision of technical staff.
• Advanced degree in related field including course work in video production and new media content creation, video engineering or computer sciences.
• Professional training in similar fields including lighting, audio, systems administration & server operations, programming languages, streaming, or related fields.
