At NPR Labs, we use technology to solve problems outside of the operational day. Any day, we might help map the coverage of public radio stations, write software to help independent producers, work to solve a problem in the setup of the AV system.
Some areas of experience that would be great for you to have include:
• audio systems and technologies
• online mapping tools
• GIS
• Python and its web frameworks
• design best practices
• user research
We are not expecting that you have deep knowledge (or have even heard) of all of the above. A strong technical background and a willingness to learn are more important than knowing any one tool or familiarity with any specific library.
Most days will involve some collaboration, some working alone and some chance for seeing a Tiny Desk Concert, going to a brown bag presentation by a foreign correspondent or training on the in-house archiving system.
We will be most convinced by an enthusiastic explanation of what you hope to learn and why you think you’ll be indispensable for a few months. Describe projects you have had the chance to be part of and why you’re glad you were.
