Business Intelligence Specialist (Temp)
Overview:

You will run key measurement tools and dashboards for podcasts, web, and social media, and you’ll extract insights from complex media usage data sets. And you love the idea of using data to make NPR (and the world) a better place. This is a temporary full-time position that has the potential to become permanent.
The Business Intelligence Specialist works under the direct supervision of Digital Metrics Analyst, Audience Insights.
Essential Duties Include:
• Manage and enhance podcast measurement and reporting (using Splunk and Python) in order to serve programming, digital, and revenue teams at NPR.
• Manage and enhance various website, app, and social media dashboards, including Google doc dashboards that pull in Google Analytics data. Build new dashboards to serve future needs.
• Generate regular reports on NPR digital trends and competitive trends based on input from stakeholders across the organization.
• Respond to analytics questions and data requests from news, programming, and digital teams, including requests that support grants.
• Master the data flowing through NPR’s digital platforms and find opportunities for analyses that inform key decisions in content, revenue, and digital product development.
• Conduct analyses and uncover insights on audience usage across NPR platforms, including website, apps, podcasts, and social media.
• Consult with teams on how they can best use analytics data for decision making and train them in using analytics tools.
• Communicate effectively with small teams, formal presentations, and at business unit events with engaging storytelling.
• Develop written communications to address varied styles and information needs.
• Build strong working relationships at all levels with internal clients and build problem-solving partnerships with clients and colleagues.
Qualifications:
• Four-year college degree in computer science, information systems, business, or related area.
• 2 years of experience in business intelligence and digital analytics, ideally in media.
• Proven experience with Google Analytics or Adobe Analytics as well as Excel.
• Proven ability in Python, Java, or similar.
• Proficiency in HTML and CSS.
• Basic knowledge of SQL or other query language.
• Splunk experience a major plus.
• Ability to decompose a problem and work through a technical approach and attack a problem in a systematic way.
• Strong analysis and data interpretation skills with a keen sense for data gaps and inconsistencies.
• Experience managing data-driven research from project inception to client communication.
• Demonstrated experience in developing data visualization independently or with tools.
• Excellent oral, written and visual communication skills, particularly at explaining complex quantitative information to non-technical audiences.
• Strong collaboration skills.
• Not just a tolerance but a zeal for multitasking. At the same time show a clear sense for priorities and commitment to follow-through.
