Role Summary
The Director, Human Resources will provide HR leadership to the Today Show and Nightly News part of NBC News. This individual will lead overall strategic HR leadership to the business and drive key HR initiatives in areas such as staffing, performance management, change management, compensation planning, succession planning, training and development, rewards & recognition, organizational effectiveness and employee communication. This position will report to the VP of Human Resources for News. This position is based out of 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
Responsibilities
• Partner with the businesses to drive the human resources strategies that supports business objectives
• Provide HR leadership and coaching to employees and managers regarding employee relations issues, ensuring prompt and effective management and resolution
• Lead initiatives in partnership with business managers and employees to establish and maintain a positive work environment, which encourages the full use of diverse talents and abilities
• Drive key HR processes/initiatives including staffing, change management, organizational design, compensation planning, performance management, and employee development
• Advocate and offer guidance and counseling to employees concerning work-related issues and work to resolve issues in a proactive and positive manner
• Build strong relationships with top talent and actively lead contract renewal conversations / negotiations to retain top talent
• Interpret and communicate HR policies; develop and implement HR practices and procedures aligned to meet the strategic needs of the organization. Ensure compliance with Federal, State and local laws
• Manage staffing process, working with hiring managers and talent acquisition team to identify recruitment strategies as well as ensure diverse candidate slates and top quality candidate selection
• Lead succession planning for key management roles and execute a strategic staffing strategy to ensure a robust and diverse pipeline of talent across the organization
• Develop diversity initiatives in partnership with VP HR News and the wider news group HR Team
• Actively participate or lead HR initiatives impacting the NBC News Group
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
Basic Qualifications
• BS/BA degree in Human Resources or related discipline
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant Human Resources partnering experience including organizational development, change management, performance management and recruiting.
Eligibility Requirements
• Must be willing to work in New York, NY
• Must be willing to submit to a background investigation
• Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS
• Graduate degree in Human Resources, MBA or related field and/or PHR/SPHR certified preferred
• Commercially minded individual with proven ability to identify and dive HR Strategy within a fast paced environment
• Proven influencer; demonstrated ability to coach and counsel all levels of employees
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to establish credibility and rapport
• Demonstrated knowledge of applicable State and Federal employment laws and general business practices
• Previous experience in television, media and/or news industries
• Experience in change management
• Provides timely and creative HR solutions to business issues
• Strong employee-relations skill set; can earn trust and credibility with employees in assigned groups
• Strong persuasion and conflict resolution skills
• Must have ability to execute both strategic and tactical priorities
• Must be detail-oriented and organized, with excellent follow-through and analytical skills
• Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work with minimal guidance or direct supervision
• An impactful leader with strong business acumen and the ability to drive change in an effective and participative manner
• Well-versed in HR Best Practices and overall policy and process
• Strong working knowledge of labor relations within the media industry
• Demonstrated ability to balance numerous priorities in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment, with excellent follow-through and analytical skills
• Takes ownership; able to establish self as the ''go-to'' HR resource
• Must be able to exercise discretion and keep strictest levels of confidentiality
• Knowledge of and proficiency in Word, Power Point and Excel; SAP experience a plus
• Sense of humor and 'can do' approach
