The Vice President, Employee Engagement is responsible for providing leadership in the development and execution of employee engagement and communications strategies that will enhance the overall employee experience, positioning the company as a great place to work and to build a career. This position will directly oversee and drive key HR initiatives in the areas of Employee Engagement, Internal Communications, Operational Staffing and retention, Employee recognition, Wellness programs and Community Relations. This role drives our company culture and value of Do the Right Thing. The role is both strategic and tactical to respond to the dynamic needs of the business. This position leads a team of 25 and reports to the Sr. Vice President, Human Resources for Universal Studios Hollywood.
Essential Responsibilities
• Develop long-term strategies and sponsor key initiatives to promote, achieve and sustain a culture of exceptional employee engagement and overall excellence. Propose innovative approaches and solutions to engage employees and bring excitement and new experiences aligned with company culture and brand
• Track effectiveness of programs leveraging data to continuously evolve the strategy and improve outcomes
• Drive and support planning and execution of Employee Satisfaction survey, including process administration, data analysis and reporting. Develop strategic insights for the Leadership team and partner with the Engagement Council on the development and execution of company-wide action plans. Provide guidance to improve individual and team effectiveness.
• Drive employee recognition strategies and program enhancements that align with both operational and workforce demands.
• Lead the employee communications team in developing and maintaining various communication channels that provide relevant and important information in a timely and consistent manner to professional staff and Theme Park hourly population.
• Provide direction for creating compelling content that helps ensure all employees are informed and engaged.
• Partner and work closely with the Learning & Organizational Development team, the Training Managers and HR partners to ensure that a consistent Company voice is delivered during New Hire Orientation, promotional materials and HR processes.
• Provide direction to operational/seasonal staffing function. Ensure development and execution of effective staffing strategies and implementation plans to meet high volume/seasonal staffing demands.
• Partner with peers on the strategy and execution of employment branding and recruitment marketing specific to front of the house staffing. Work in conjunction with talent acquisition to ensure consistent messaging.
• Oversee the strategy and initiatives that position Universal Studios Hollywood as a strong community partner and responsible corporate citizen. This includes our Discover A Star Foundation, Company-wide compassion program, employee volunteer program, charitable ticket donations, fund-raising and special events.
• Drive company wellness through the Wellness & Nutrition Coach and employee services team to produce an array of programs and offerings focused on USH's 4 pillars of wellness: mind, body, work and life. This includes a curriculum of fitness activities, the benefits of nutrition and overall wellness and healthier options at employee cafeterias and events.
• Review and analyze market, industry best practices, trends, and internal feedback.
• Lead and develop team of 25; providing direction and identifying development, improvement and engagement opportunities that support and encourage high performance and excellent client servicing.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Human Resources, Business or related field required.
• 15 years of relevant HR experience including employee engagement, talent acquisition and internal communications.
• Minimum 7 years' experience in an HR leadership role.
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS
• MBA or Graduate degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
• Prior work experience in hospitality industry.
• Experience with enhancing employee engagement culture and Company's image as a great place to work
• Strong operational business acumen, executive presence and adaptive work style
• Proven influencer and consensus builder: demonstrated ability to provide sound advice and counsel to Operational Leaders and executive level management.
• Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication, and facilitation skills which will enable him/her to interact with a range of personalities and styles and be able to establish effective relationships of all levels of the organization.
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task and balance numerous priorities in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Takes ownership; ability to set a strategy and motivate others to achieve necessary deliverables
• Demonstrated ability to manage a team of HR professionals.
• Strong project and process management skills with demonstrated track record of delivering results
