Responsibilities Manages employee benefits by providing leadership, support and strategic vision for the benefits programs and initiatives. Interacts with the insurance carriers, legal counsel, and consultant on benefit-related matters. Assists with more complex benefit-related issues in resolution. Responsible for assuring compliance with legal requirements.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Manages benefits staff and provides training enabling them to become efficient in their role. Provides them with information and tools to resolve employee benefit issues.
• Responsible for overseeing day-to-day administration of group insurance plans, benefits billing, COBRA, 401k plan, ESPP, EAP, leave accrual policies, tuition reimbursement program, executive plans and special projects. Oversees the daily management of all disability cases (both short term and long term) and employee leaves of absences, including FMLA.
• Responsible for the system related processing of benefits data through PeopleSoft ensuring compliance and data integrity. Troubleshoots and resolves interface issues, recommend system enhancements/changes, and benefit data report writing. Assists with testing system changes for new benefit customizations and configurations.
• Responsible for recommendation/presentation/implementation of new benefit plans. Manages the creation and updating of communication materials of benefit plans. Ensures compliance with state and federal benefit regulations relative to benefit design.
• Works with Sr. Director to analyze current benefit plan design relative to competitive practice and corporate objectives. Designs new benefit and modifies existing plans. Develops and maintains contacts with insurance carriers in-house and outside legal counsel and consultants.
• Works directly with management to ensure department goals and objectives are met. Handles any special projects related to benefits. Ensures with Director that department objectives are in line with corporate objectives and are in line with target dates of completion.
SCOPE: Responsible for the administration of various benefit plans and the staff that supports these plans, including the budget for the department. Staff responsibilities are varied with different levels and aspects of skill sets required. Great deal of interaction with outside vendors and must assist in the management of those relationships.
Qualifications/Requirements QUALIFICATIONS: Decision making, Delegating responsibility, Communication, Project management, Analytical, Customer oriented, Experience with HR systems, Regulatory/compliance knowledge, Strategic thinker/planner, Interpersonal skills
EDUCATION: High School degree or GED required. Bachelor's degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE: 7 to 10 years with benefits administration experience. 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience. Knowledge of HRIS/PeopleSoft preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
