Responsibilities Summary:
Under the guidance of the VP Labor Relations, this position will provide support and counsel to Management on all aspects of labor relations for a population of over 3500 employees represented by several unions, including the administration, enforcement and negotiation of various collective bargaining agreements.
Essential Functions:
• Handling grievances arising under the collective bargaining agreements.
• Providing advice, counsel and training to managers regarding the administration and enforcement of the collective bargaining agreements applicable to their respective employee populations.
• Actively participating in union contract negotiations, including working with management to develop negotiation proposals and strategies to meet business needs and goals as well as representing management at the bargaining table to achieve the desired outcome.
• Partnering with managers and providing advice and support regarding labor relations in connection with the achievement of business goals.
• Providing advice and counsel to Human Resources and managers regarding the investigation of employee misconduct and the issuance of discipline
• Developing and maintaining relationships with union business representatives to foster and continuously improve union-management relations. Qualifications/Requirements • Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent with specific coursework in Human Resources/Labor Relations
• Minimum of five years Labor Relations experience including contract negotiations, handling grievances and interpreting contracts
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint Desired Characteristics • JD degree preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills which will enable him/her to interact with a range of personalities and styles and be able to establish effective relationships with all levels of the organization.
• Strong analytical abilities, including strong business acumen.
