Documentary
Start date: Week of March 14th or March 20th
Duration: For Trailer only - over the span of 1 month (including editing)
Seeking triple threat - Director/DP/Editor with Documentary experience (with or without equipment - if WITHOUT equipment, familiar with Nikon DSLR, Rode MIC and lighting with softboxes)
I'm a French-Salvadorean California born award winning choreographer, producer and performing artist. My opera prima Medea Tango was awarded the National Patrimony Award in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The current job is for the creation of a TRAILER for a Feature length documentary, Part A. My grant writer and I need a visual for investors to see and feel what the Documentary as a whole will be about. I am seeking a one-woman or one-man team to:
- shoot 2 interviews and some B-Roll plus some additional material to cut to
- help Direct/Envision the flow and style of the trailer to maximize the creative message (short storyboard for trailer)
- edit the content shot + certain clips from footage that spans the last 20 years (not more than 15hrs of footage and the clips to use will be a couple seconds long) you will be able to edit the trailer yourself, no preference to what program is being used, you will need to provide your own editing bay and software. The trailer will be no longer than 3mn. We might grab a couple shorter clips for Social Media promotion.
Once the trailer is completed and our grant writer is in the process of securing funding, there will be a new negotiation for part B which would include:
- True passion about the project and great collaboration during trailer creation
- New contract & new rate for your services with a clear definition of what role you will be taking on for full film
- New time frame for full documentary which will probably span 6months-a year time (we are dealing with the recovery time from my knee surgery end of March which will be included in the film as part of the ''overcoming challenges and adversity'' as an artist and dancer).
The plan is to secure funding for development of script, then funding for production. I am an Executive Producer and will be appealing to investors with great interest in funding and developing stories about under served migrant communities, investors that support women filmmakers and cultural organizations that support the preservation of cultural heritage and ethnic art.
We will be entering festivals worldwide.
SYNOPSIS of the project - ''Alicia''
This is a story about the power of a human connection that inspired a woman to find her purpose. This poignant and rhythmic documentary covers a 20 year relationship between a now, 74 year old performing artist and one of her, then youngest students ever (enrolled in her adult advanced class at age 11), Kristelle and the struggles of illness (both acute and chronic) and the migrant experience of seeking belonging. Jondo Flamenco, a dying dance form, is used as a medium to express and explore these tribulations, the importance of the mentor ship bond, and the emotional taxation of pursuing one's dreams.
Here's more about Alicia:
A descendant of classical ethnic dancers on both branches of her family tree, and was trained by dance professionals in the Hawaii Public Schools and later in dance academies in California, New York and Madrid. She is the protégé of Rosa Durán of Jerez and Madrid, and inherited her lineage choreographies in Jondo-Flamenco from the teachings of El Estampio, Angel Pericet, and El Marruro. She trained in the traditional arte with Teresita Osta, Lupe del Rio, Maria Magdalena, Rosa Montoya, Tosa Niki (under Pilar Lopez), La Tati, Rafael de Córdova, Teo Morca, and Paco Romero. Alicia performed world-wide with guitarists Roberto Andrés and Niño de Napoli, and choreographed and staged AIRE touring concerts: ''Deep Song'', ''Ay, Córdova!'', and ''Concierto Homenaje - a Lorca.'' She is author of Tú y Yo, Flamenco dance obra and the ''Spanish Flamenco Dance Reference Guide'', (Third Edition). She has staged dance productions interfacing Flamenco with another ethnic dance form: Hawaiian Hula, in ''Dances to Shiva and Laka; Pele and Kali'' with E. Indian Dance as a cultural parent to both; and Chinese Opera and Regional Folk dances in ''Yin-Yang, Duende!
Looking forward to your submissions!
