Summary
The Rights management group is responsible for the efforts related to acquired rights and licensed rights on a worldwide basis. The Rights Research Analyst researches complex derivative rights issues and advises the Film and TV Development/Production team on legal matters related to projects derived from library titles and unproduced acquisitions. The ideal candidate will have experience in development rights research from a film/TV Studio.
Responsibilities
• Research complex questions regarding Miramax's motion picture, television, and live stage rights
• Gather and analyze legal documents to determine Miramax's rights in connection with library titles and acquisitions
• Draft a comprehensive chain-of-title for each assignment detailing Miramax's rights and related obligations
• Draft legal memorandum informing Miramax executives of Miramax's rights and contractual obligations in connection with development projects and third party requests
• Prepare and distribute various rights research tracking reports
• Complete other projects, as assigned
Requirements
• Law degree strongly preferred
• Minimum 2-3 years of experience working in a legal capacity at an entertainment company, entertainment law firm
• Guild knowledge required
• Familiarity with Motion Picture and Television Development and Production
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and re-prioritize as needed
• Strong analytical skills and ability to exercise sound legal judgment
• Ability to interact positively and professionally with attorneys, staff and external clients
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to work proactively and with the appropriate level of independence
• Detail-oriented and highly-organized
• Familiarity with rights tracking databases a plus
• Fluent in MS Office, database entry, and navigation
