Summary
The Rights management group is responsible for the efforts related to acquired rights and licensed rights on a worldwide basis. The Rights Research Analyst researches complex derivative rights issues and advises the Film and TV Development/Production team on legal matters related to projects derived from library titles and unproduced acquisitions. The ideal candidate will have experience in development rights research from a film/TV Studio.
Responsibilities
• Analyze various agreements and guild obligations to determine prequel, sequel, remake, spinoff, television and stage rights retained by Miramax in response to rights inquiries from internal Miramax personnel (the Development team) and from external sources (agent, writers, producer, managers, etc.)
• Conduct general rights research for Miramax library titles to determine titles that Miramax can monetize
• Conduct legal research in order to enjoin third parties from exploiting projects or engaging in actions that are unfavorable to Miramax
• Prepare comprehensive Chain-of-Title analysis informing Miramax of its rights
• Meet regularly with development team to discuss status of research projects
• Analyze and determine rights and talent obligations in connection with new content
Requirements
• JD required
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field
• Minimum 3 years of experience working in a legal capacity at an entertainment company, specifically with chain-of-tile and rights research
• Guild knowledge required
• Familiarity with Motion Picture and Television Development and Production
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and re-prioritize as needed
• Strong communication skills
• Detail-oriented and highly-organized
• Familiarity with rights tracking databases a plus
• Fluent in MS Office, database entry and navigation
