Position Title: Director, Accounting
Location: Santa Monica, CA
Reporting To: Controller
Summary
The Director of Accounting is a broadly based role with responsibility for the day to day accounting for Miramax, including general ledger and payables activities, as well as working with the Controller to ensure the accuracy and completeness of various weekly, monthly and quarterly financial reporting to senior management, the board of directors, and investors
Responsibilities
• Oversee financial statement close process: Supervise staff accountants on month-end close and financial statement close process, review budget to actual analysis, and prepare financial reporting package to Board of Directors
• In charge of the operation of Accounting Department, including design of an organizational structure, implementation of accounting system, construct annual expense budget and forecast, and develop various accounting policies and procedures
• Responsible for debt servicing activities, including compilation of monthly and quarterly reports in compliance with Miramax's refinance reporting obligations and communications with debt holders
• Develop and oversee quarterly taxable income estimates
• Responsible for the annual financial statement audit
• Maintain the integrity of the financial reporting process through ensuring controls are followed and transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP
• Supervise the preparation of analysis to support financial reporting and general ledger activities.
• Manage and provide mentoring to staff. Delegate tasks and provide guidance and feedback
• Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department
• Provide support to Controller on various ad hoc analysis as required
Requirements
• BA or BS with an emphasis in Accounting for Finance
• Minimum 5-7 years general accounting or equivalent experience, ideally at an entertainment company
• CPA preferred
• Excellent knowledge of GAAP and cash reporting. Solid understanding of film accounting
• Must possess strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and consistently meet tight deadlines
• Work efficiently with a sense of urgency, a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
• Strong ability to read and interpret contracts in financial terms
• Systems experience, including ideally experience with SAP
• Experience fostering an efficient, innovative, and team oriented work environment
